| She Stands |
 |
| Original Poetry by Elizabeth Barrie Buck |

She Stands
She stands at the top of the hill
And looks out
Over the sea
Gray skies
Meeting crashing waves,
Watching the white mist of the ocean crests
Disperse into the air.
She stares out
Over the horizon,
Gently murmuring
"That is where my love lives---
Out there---
In the vast and barren expanse of space...
That is where he is,
My love,
In that sea,
Across the ocean,
On a distant shore
Far away from the arms
That are his home."
She stands at the top of the hill
Looking out.
Wondering
Waiting
Pondering
When he will return to her.
She waits patiently
Looking out
Quietly,
Questioning
How long she must stand there...
Silently looking
And musing
And dreaming
And longing
Wondering if this wait will be
A moment
Or a lifetime...
And caring not...
For a moment without her love
IS a lifetime of pain...
And a lifetime without her love
Is too great for her to bear.
So she stands there
Waiting...
Looking out to the ocean...
Waiting for Love to emerge
And claim her,
And hoping
She will not have to wait
Much longer.
