Hiya, this is Melanie Tucker here, and Claire Wright, and we have the top tips here on how to be a great friend. You can email us at melanie_t1000@hotmail.com with questions or queries. And we'll email you back, but remember to include your name and email address...or we won't be able to help you.
Before you go any further, we have to get one thing straight, that is:
FRIENDSHIP IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!

Claire:
Me and Melanie have been really good friends since we were 7, and we have had a wonderful 6 years of being friends, but...we got one thing wrong. We made friends with a really horrible girl when we were 8, and it was nearly the end of our friendship! She would take advantage of us, but now...we've realised this and now she is long gone!

Melanie:
Thats right! we are best friends now, along with two other really nice girls. (Jessica Dell and Charlotte Robins).
This is why we decided to make a web page on friendship, because we have been through all the ups and downs, happy moments and fights that being mates can have.

Now for the juicy info on what really causes fights:
1. Jealousy
2. Lying
3. stealing
4. unfair comments
5. prejudice

These are just a few! there are many more problems, and you can email us with them and we'll add them to this website, and also email you back with the answer.
meanwhile, here are the solutions to the five above:

1. jealousy- this often occurs when one friend has more possessions and/or money than the other. This can be easily solved by sharing. If you do not wish to share your stuff with your mates, then you are not fit to call yourself a good friend.
2. Lying - There is not really a solution to this, but to just not lie, mates are there to understand your problems and keep your secrets. However, if it is something that is serious, then you cannot blame your friend for telling eg: bullying, drugs, bulimia etc.
3. stealing- Like above, this is something you DO NOT DO. not just to friends, but not to shops and others, either. If they steal from you, then they are obviously not your true friends. either that, or they need help.
4. Unfair comments- This friend is probably feeling a little low at the moment, she probably has low self-esteem or it could be that she is jealous, she needs to make you feel down about yourself to make her feel better. This is not fair on you. Ask her if there is anything wrong. Talk to her.
5. Prejudice- this means when someone or a group of people are unfair to a certain person or people because they are different to themselves. In friendship, this can occur if someone is: fat, thin, different skin colour/religion, poor, rich and many more. If your friend is prejudiced against you or someone else, try talking to them and try to make them see that they are wrong. If this does not work, I am afraid that they will not change and you'll have to live with it or move on.

Melanie:
In case you are wondering how we know all these things, it is because every one of them happened to us.
Our EX-friend Katherine Brooks was jealous of us because we had more possessions/money, which soon led to stealing off us, which then made her lie that she hadn't.
She also said alot of unfair comments, which I wont write because some were quite rude and nasty. (and we don't want you getting any ideas.)
She was prejudiced too.

Claire:
These are just a few of the things she did to us:
She stole our pens, notebooks, most of the things we brought to school. She told us that her mum and sister had died, that she was allowed to do anything she wanted, both of which were not true.
She called us many (rude) names, which I will not repeat, and (because I am particularily short) she called me stupid (and again more rude words) and small. We were stupid actually...stupid enough to ever try to be her friend!!
