Hello, and welcome to The Birdcage, a drag club in South Beach where you can "Come as you are." My name is Starina, the main singer. Of course, in my everyday appearance, I am a man named Albert Goldman, who shares the apartment above the club with my lover, Armand Goldman, the owner of the club. A great man, Armand runs the club with dignity and decorum, although I am much the opposite... I fret about my onstage appearance, wondering if I am too old to be singing and performing. Sometimes, I don't know why Armand puts up with me.
Everything in our lives seems to be going wonderfully. We always have a full house, the music is great and the performers love their jobs. And my Agador... our household maid... he is always there when I need an uplifting spirit. And then, Val came home...
Val is Armand's son from a fling he had about 20 years ago with Katherine Archer, a woman Armand danced with. He's my baby. |
