Okay skaters, this is the first site I've done so bare with me here. I'm dedicating this site to all the chicas out there that skateboard, much props to you. The site doesn't have much yet, but just wait, I'll add more lata. If you have suggestions or pics of you skating to put on here (guys or gurls), which I'm sure you do, just e-mail me and I will do whatever I can to make this site hella cooler. And please people, sign my guestbook dammit!
Answers to your Skateboarding ?'s
THE DIFFERENCE OF OLD SCHOOL AND NEW SCHOOL:
Old school boards had no nose room and killed trees. The wheels lost speed slowly, handled "real" streets well, they were great for all terrain and got flat spots with difficulty, but they got up to speed slowly. Hardware, nada. The set-up kinda sucks cuz they're heavy, had a high centre of gravity, and menoevoured poorly.
New school boards are snappy, thin, have lots of nose room, and even save trees!! The wheels are rad for speed cuz you gain it quickly, but also lose speed like hella fast, get flat spots easily, too hard on some terrains, and don't handle "real" streets well. As for new school hardware, nada. The set-up is pretty sweet cuz they're light, have a low centre of gravity, and are awsome for street skating.
WHAT DO THESE DECKS HAVE IN COMMON?
They're both tiring for a mode of transportation!!!
THE COST OF A NEW BOARD?
Usually a new deck is around 100 to 150 dollars, and yes, I'm talking "real" skateboards that are made in the USA!
WOOD OR SLICK?
Wood decks are made out of maple laminates. Slick decks have a layer of slippery plastic bonded to the bottom of it.
You can have just wood decks, but just not the slick part. Slick on wood is available if you need extra slide or strength, but slick decks are usually heavier than wood decks. Most skaters perfer to use wood decks and they're also cheaper.
BIG WHEELS OR LITTLE WHEELS?
Medium please!
WIDTH OF YOUR TRUCKS?
Your trucks should be slightly in from the deck edges and your wheels should be level.
BEARINGS?
Well, do you want your board to move? I don't really clean my bearings cuz I have no time for that, but you might want to clean em if your board is drastically phucking up or just went for a swim. Bearings to use: well, I use either Lucky or Speed Metal, but there are others out there that are just as good like Swiss, Powell, Quickies, or Shorty's.
Trick Tips:
Aight.... I don't know alot of skateboarding tricks, and I don't know how to do all of em, yet!
BOARDSLIDE/RAILSLIDE: Lift your front truck over the lip/curb/rail and slide.
FLIPS: There's a few different flip tricks and they're very popular with street skaters.
HEELFLIP: Bust an ollie, slide your front foot to the toe side of the board, flick the board with your heel, it flips and you land it.
KICKFLIP: Bust an ollie, slide your front foot to the heel side of the board, flick the board with your toes, it flips and you land it.
GRIND: Move along the edge of whatever you're grinding with your trucks. ( this is how city property gets phucked up! )
NOSEGRIND:Just the front truck grinds.
50-50:Both trucks grind.
5-O: Just the back truck grinds.
TAILSLIDE: Bust an ollie and lift the tail of your board over the curb/rail/ledge and slide.
NOSESLIDE: Bust an ollie and lift the nose of your board over the curb/rail/ledge and slide.
