HOMING BEACON TALKS ABOUT EPISODE 2
1/12/02 @ 1:03 PM
The official site just sent out their homing beacon. The article talks about what filming episode 2 is like. Here it is.....
""It's going to be a madhouse for the next six months," says Producer Rick McCallum. In addition to completing Episode II for North American release, international versions must be completed in time for next spring. As announced last November, Episode II will open in most countries within the same month, a move that considerably squeezes the time required to produce international mixes.
"It means we have to have the finished film done a month ahead of what we did for Episode I," says McCallum. "It means we have to audition and cast 60 to 80 actors to do the parts in each country, and we're in 30 different countries. All the parts have to be translated. It's a very intense, complicated and time-consuming period, but awfully fun if we can pull it off."
International agents in each territory gather a shortlist of local voice talent which are then sent to the production. "We listen to them and approve them, but that can take a long time because there are maybe four to five ! actors for each part in each country. It takes a good day to really analyze everybody for one country -- if you have 30 countries, that's a month, and the only way you can do it."
Some of the vocal talents of returning Episode I characters will again return for Episode II. "We were very happy with Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman's characters in almost every country. We also listened to feedback from every country. Some of it was very intense from dedicated fans who care a lot about the subtleties that no one else sees. It takes a long time."

The official site came out with a review of some of the figures for AOTC. The official site called it 'Collection 1, Wave 1' which i thought was pretty interesting.

MYSTERY TRAILER RANKED 8TH BEST OF '01
1/10/02 @ 8:13 PM
The "Star Wars Episode 2: Attack Of The Clones trailer was rated the 8th best trailer of the year 2001 by the-trades.com in one of the ranking lists they made. They did a top 100 list and then they did a worst trailer of 2001.
I agree with them 100%. Mystery was good, it concentrated on the whole film, all the though a little bit too much of ewan mcgregor. However, there are some excellent shots and scenes and it was a great idea by Lucasfilm to have it available only by use of the Episode 1 DVD. An excellent marketing choice.
NSYNC GONE FROM EPISODE 2
1/10/02 @ 7:59 PM
Thank the maker! They were making such a big deal about it, it's good they finally decided to leave. One of the bands members made the announcment on a radio station this morning. I really don't care, it's not that big of deal. But obviously, some people think otherwise.
2002 IS A YEAR OF BLOCKBUSTER SEQUELS
1/9/02 @ 9:35 PM
2002 is going to be year of blockbuster sequels. Attack of the Clones comes out on May 16th, and is predicted to win at the box offices and with the critics. However, people are also talking about LOTR's next movie, The Two Towers, which will be released Christmas 2002. Other hit movies are expected to be Spiderman, Matrix Reloaded and Harry Potter. (again)
LEE UPDATES SITE
1/8/02 @ 9:15 PM
Christopher Lee updated his site today with a small letter pertaining to his role in star wars. Here is a small excerpt:
"Mr Lee's character was keep under maximum secrecy and described only as a "Charismatic separatist". Now officially known as "Count Dooku/Darth Thyranus", will make its debut in the film as leader of the Dark side. Count Dooku can be described as an extremely intelligent, cool and calculating villain with unbeatable fencing skills. An ex Jedi master himself, has a connection that will make a lot of sense in the film and which will surprise a lot of guessing fans. The move by Lucas to cast a legendary actor of the quality of Mr Lee in Star Wars, will give the film a different dimension and pose a threatening challenge to "Darth Vader" as the number one villain in the series. Every film needs a good villain and Mr Lee is simply the best actor for the part there is. His imposing figure, his natural fencing skills and experience in this sort of roles will make "Dooku" a household name. He will be using a light saber in the shape of "The Sword of Charlemagne", his ancestors' sword. Coincidence or not, this saber will be at home in the experienced hands of Mr Lee, who at 79 has the fastest arms around.

AOTC ARENA SCENE: LINE BY LINE
1/7/02 @ 5:54 PM
Well, I don't exactly have it line by line, but i do have a large portion of where Anakin comes and saves Obi-Wan. They are both sarcastic, but then when they are caught, there eyes lock and Anakin's eyes turn to his in fury, Obi-Wan's in contempt. It passes within seconds, but definitly signs of anakin's fall to the dark side.
LUCAS' KIDS IN EPISODE 2
1/7/02 @ 5:48 PM
Both of George Lucas' kids will appear in episode 2. I think they are both supposed to play Jedi children training. Not much other info is known at this time.
OFFICIAL SITE: THE JANUARY GRIND
1/5/02 @ 6:53 PM
The official site released a schedule for their filming completion in episode 2. Here's an excerpt of the article.....
"The brief holiday break is over for the Episode II crew as Producer Rick McCallum heads back overseas to supervise the final phases of production. It's the Attack of the Clones home stretch as the time until completion is now being recorded in weeks instead of months.
"We're doing two days of shooting with the principle actors, and then we're doing the rest of the looping. We then have three weeks of scoring, so it's a very hectic schedule finishing around February 1st and rushing back to California," says McCallum.
January will see the crucial addition of a musical score to Episode II. "John Williams has been writing for 6-8 weeks with a couple of more weeks to go," reveals McCallum. Williams will join the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios to record the score. "We have to make our booking so far in advance, we actually made this booking three years ago!"

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT NSYNC IN EP 2????
1/4/02 @ 7:09 PM
What in the world is so big about NSYNC being "in" episode 2? They aren't really even in it, they are in the backround in an arena battle scene posing as Jedi, and there are only a few of them there. So WHAT???!!!??? Countless star wars sites will have this in there headlines. Sites that haven't updated since September 11th or since the last teaser trailer came out will suddenly put up 'NSYNC IN EPISODE 2'. Why do they make such a big deal out of it. So many sites, including TFN, Jeedai Net, Naboo Planet, Episode 2.com, Episode-X.com, Star Wars Universe (french site), Aldera, Movie Headlines, and the site that started it all, Prequel-Spoilers are all guilty of bombarding their headlines with information about NSYNC IN EPISODE 2. I just don't see the relevance of it.
TWO FANS ALREADY IN LINE FOR EPISODE 2
1/4/02 @ 7:03 PM
Two fans are already in the waiting line for episode 2. For the next four months, two dedicated fans (names unknown) will walk around the streets of the country's largest movie theater, where there is a seperate theater just for trailers. They will stay in Seattle, Washington for the next four months and camp outside the theater days before Episode 2 is released.

MCALLUM TALKS JANGO FETT
1/2/02 @ 5:10 PM
"Jango Fett is Episode 2's posterboy", says Rick Mcallum, co-producer of star wars.
It's pretty much true. Jango Fett appears all over the internet as a symbol for Episode 2. Too bad he dies.
"He'll be on everyone's Christmas and Easter list this year," Rick continued.
Jango Fett is partly so popular due to his son's popularity in the original trilogy. Jango, like his son, is a bounty hunter.
NEW AOTC PICTURES

New Episode 2 pictures were released from Anthony Daniels (threepio) website. Click here to view them.
CNN SAYS STAR WARS: EP 2 IS THE 'BIGGEST OF THEM ALL'
1/1/02 @ 7:22 PM
CNN Entertainment reports (a small excerpt):
"Still, even though many films made money, few had what the industry calls "legs" -- long, profitable runs in theaters. Many films were "front-loaded," opened in thousands of theaters so as to dominate their first weekend, then fell off 50 percent or more in receipts thereafter.
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," released in mid-November, had the biggest opening in history.
And a big star didn't guarantee a big opening, notes Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart.
"Toward the end of the year, those pictures that were disappointments were Jim Carrey's picture, Tom Cruise's picture. The big hits were the franchise pictures, like 'Harry Potter' and earlier in the year, 'Shrek,'" he said. "So one wonders if we're beginning to reach that time where the star is the story, and not the personality."
Story will be at the heart of two 2002 sequels, the second chapters to both "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings." (The first "Potter" broke box-office records, grossing $90.3 million in its first three days, and is expected to cross $300 million by the end of the week.)
Also up for next year: new installments of "Austin Powers," "Stuart Little," "Star Trek," "Men in Black," and the biggest of them all, "Star Wars" -- all of which could make 2002 another huge year for Hollywood.

STARWARSPOLICE'S STARWARS.COM DATABANK RAID: SERIES 1
12/30/01 @ 9:52 PM
This is something new that i am going to start where twice a month I take a look at starwars.com's expansive databank and analyze it here to try to discover small secrets of episode 2 that may be hidden in there.
Emperor's Royal Guard
Everyone knows them as the red-suited emperor's guard that protects palpatine in Return of the Jedi. They will make a return in episode 2, as the star wars databank says: "While the guards can trace their origins to the cerulean-clad Senate Guards of the Republic, Palpatine crafted an order of protectors that stood apart from the rest of his forces. "
Naboo Starfighter
Why will this be in Episode 2? No one would've guessed it, but those yellow fighters will be returning. It says nothing about in the entry, but it is under the episode 2 part of the databank.
A larger update later.
LEE SAYS HE ISN'T DONE WITH STAR WARS FILMING
12/29/01 @ 10:21 PM
Christopher Lee stated in a holiday greeting on his site that he was not yet done filming star wars. He said quote
"As the World knows, "The Fellowship of the Ring" has been a monumental success, for which are all very proud. I have not yet finished "Star Wars: The Attack of the Clones" but will do so in February 2002. "
Very interesting. It is unknown whether or not he needs to do some more actual filming or just voices, but I will let you know as soon as this information becomes available, if it does.
QUI-GONN JINN IN EPISODE 2
12/28/01@ 6:47 PM
In a recent news article Liam Neeson, who plays Qui-Gonn Jinn in episode 2, said quote "i really shouldn't be saying this, but yes i am in episode 2" That fact alone is a spoiler, because the only role he could play is a spoiler. Qui-Gonn will probably return and speak to Obi-Wan about anakin's future and what to do with it. He will be brief, the whole scene maybe will last only a few minutes.
NEW STAR WARS CREATURE
12/21/01 @ 10:51 PM
A new star wars creature, thus unidentified, will appear in episode 2 on the planet Genoisis in the Arena. Click here to see the creature.
NEXT TRAILER TO BE ATTACHED TO LOTR
12/20/01 @ 7:29 PM
The next AOTC trailer, a new one, is attached to Lord Of The Rings:Fellowship of The Ring, which came out yesterday, but failed to take away Episode 1's 1st day record. Like i've said before, it doesn't matter because AOTC will beat them all.
CLONE TROOPER PICTURE
12/18/01@ 9:28 PM
see a surprisingly accurate clone trooper picture from tfn.
JEDI STARFIGHTER SECRET
12/17/01 @ 7:17 PM
The new ship in Episode 2 is called a Jedi Starfighter. It is sleek, and holds a jedi with his droid. But what you probably didn't know is that it may transform into something entirely different, like, say an armored landspeeder or something like that. Nothing's confirmed yet, but it's just and interesting possiblity.
CLIMATIC AOTC ENDING
12/16/01 @ 9:29 PM
Apparently the AOTC ending arena scene is very climatic. Some things that are going to happen:
Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme fight clones in the arena for quite some time while Mace Windu battles Jango Fett after he escapes from Obi-Wan on Genoisis. Anakin and Obi-Wan procede to fight Dooku. Yoda saves them (anakin's arm may be cut off at this time) and then yoda goes and saves the few remaining Jedi. Dooku escapes, and reports to Sidious/Palpatine.

HOMING BEACON # 50 TALKS ABOUT FILMING
12/14/01 @ 8:54 PM
The Official Site released their homing beacon today. This was the main story about filming:
In the pre-digital age, films were color timed using filters and photochemical methods. Now, digital color timing happens in real time and is computer-controlled. As Episode II is shot entirely on HD, and so much of the finished image undergoes the addition of visual effects, it seems fitting that Industrial Light & Magic is now taking on the role of a digital lab.
"The process of color timing is using a very extensive color manipulation and level luminance and gamma manipulation device that a colorist operates and manipulates the images in a way that generates a list that is memorized, and corresponds to a custom look for basically each shot or even regions within a shot," says ILMs HD Supervisor Fred Meyers. This list of variables, stored in computer memory, can then be applied to frames and assigned to shots, creating a specific palette for specific scenes.
"With this system any one of the millions of hues and levels in an image, including selective areas within an image, can be manipulated on a frame by frame basis. You can go at a very slow or fast speed through the picture and match things together or adjust levels in an iterative process. The changes are committed to memory in the system, and you can apply them to the entire reel or the entire movie, executing those changes in real time. Its the same type of editing and flexibility that you have with the other post-production tools in editorial and in computer graphics. You see the changes right then and there."
As testament to the flexibility of the system, outputted images from Episode II can be optimized for the medium it will appear on -- whether output to film, digital projection, television broadcast or QuickTime.
"The same system was used to make a version of the trailer for the web that would exploit the qualities of the web delivery," says Meyers. "The system creates a list of what gets optimized for each screen that it will ultimately appear on, and then it plays it out to that format. So we can work from a master file and create any number of versions."
BRITAINS FAVOR EPISODE 2 TO WIN BOX OFFICE
12/13/01 @ 9:22 PM
Like I've been saying all along - IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT NUMBERS HARRY POTTER OF LORD OF THE RINGS PUT UP! Episode 2 will beat them all by alot. The british concur. They have said repeatedly that AOTC would easily win the box-office crown and maybe some grammy awards as well. I found this interesting because LOTR is getting increasingly popular over there, but they say the fans remain loyal to star wars.
TEMURA MORRISON TALKS EPISODE 2
12/13/01 @ 9:20 PM
Temura Morrison, the actor who plays Jango Fett in Episode 2, was on New Zealand's Good Morning show this morning. He said production was going good and that he does take off his helmet in Episode 2. I didn't know this, but he is also working with Lord Of The Rings along with Christopher Lee. |
