ARE YOU READY FOR
POKEMON?
Pokemon (pronounced POH-kay-mahn) first came onto the scene as a little game by Nintendo for their hand-held Game Boy system. The game became wildly popular and is now the basis of a television cartoon.
What is a Pokemon? It is short for "Pocket Monsters," which is the translation of the Japanese name of the game. Pokemon are any of 150 different little monsters that one must find, catch, and fight in order to become a Pokemon trainer. Each Pokemon is unique, although some are different evolutions and incarnations of others.
Pokemon the cartoon tells the story of Ash and his friends as he tries to catch them all and become the greatest Pokemon trainer. At his side is the trusty Pikachu, a character whose cute face you are likely to see everywhere. In fact, that's a picture of the little yellow fellow at the top of this page.
Although you don't need to watch the show to play the game, key game hints are revealed in the episodes. Here's a hint: If you can't figure out what to do with that moonstone you found, watch how Pikachu uses it in battle and try it in the game.
