QUESTIONS & ANSWERS REGARDING PLACEMENTS ABROAD

1. WHAT POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE AND WHERE?

Most positions and placements are available in Greece, but upon request, other countries are also available.
The positions available are:
 Nannies
 Housekeepers / Butlers
 Housekeeper / Cook
 Housekeeper / Cook / Nanny
 Mother’s Help
 Au Pair
 Couples (Husband & Wife – Housekeeper / Cook)
 Maternity Nurses (from birth to 3 months old)

2. HOW OLD MUST I BE?

All candidates applying to work abroad, must be at least 18 years of age and the maximum age is 45. Male & female candidates may apply.

3. WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF THE CONTRACTS?

Most contracts are for a period of 2 years. Some of the Nanny-positions are available up to 18 months and the Au Pair positions from 1 year up to 24 months.

4. WHERE DO I STAY?

During the full term of your contract, you live with the family in their home. You
are supplied your own room and bathroom. In most households they supply a TV
in the candidates room.

5. WHO ARE THE FAMILIES AND WHERE ARE THEY LOCATED?

Most of the families are high-profile families, e.g. shipping magnates, tobacco merchants, movie stars, singers, doctors, lawyers. Most families live in Athens and the surrounding suburbs. Other cities where placements are done are Patra, Thessaloniki, Trikkala, Kavala and of course the islands. Some families own two or more homes and the staff (especially the nanny) travel with the family from one home to the other. Most Greek families have summer and winter residences and some of the homes are on the islands.

6. WHAT IS MY JOB DESCRIPTION?

Once the family has accepted your application, they will in return send you their
portfolio. In their portfolio your full job description is discussed for your
consideration.

7. HOURS OF SERVICE

As most positions are full-time, the hours of service vary from family to family. The hours are discussed in the family portfolio.
Most positions are a 5½-day week, with 1½-days off per week. Minimum time off is 36 hours per week.
If a candidate completes an 18-month or 24-month contract, they are entitled to a 30-day (1-month) paid vacation, during their contract, normally after 1-year of service.
It is generally expected of candidates to work international and Greek holidays, but you get paid extra for the holidays worked.

8. MONTHLY WAGES & BENEFITS

 All wages are paid in the Greek Drachma or in the currency of the country where the candidate is hired to live and work. Wages vary from person to person, as age, experience and the position applied for differ. The amount of the wages can be supplied on request.
 GOOD WILL BOND – The first month’s wage is not paid out in cash, as it is paid into the “Goodwill Bond”. This is the only security that is supplied to the family that you will honor your contract. In the event that you do cancel or break your contract, you loose your first month’s wage; otherwise the salary will be paid to you on your last month of the contract.
 If the contract is for 18 months or more, the family must provide medical & accident insurance at NO COST to the candidate.
 Most families are prepared to harmonize their food purchase in the event the candidate requires special foodstuffs, e.g. vegetarians, etc. Most toiletries are supplied by the family, e.g. toothpaste, soaps, etc.

9. AIRFARE AND VISAS FOR CANDIDATES

 The candidate is responsible for his/her own airfare. In most instances (if negotiated) the family will reimburse the incoming ticket to Greece (or elsewhere) and the return flight will be paid by the family, or heavily subsidized, upon completion of the full term of the contract.
 We assist with the bookings and the visas. Visas are discussed with your first interview or per telephone for up-country candidates. (Please ask us about the visas for Greece.)

10. SUPPORT SERVICE

For the full term of the candidate’s contract, he/she has full agency support in the event of an emergency and to clarify adjustment problems between the family and the candidate.

11. WHAT DO I NEED TO START THE PROCEDURE FOR EMPLOYMENT ABROAD AND HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?
