I was at the in-between age where I was considered a child, but yet so close to being an adult, the age of 17. I was going to be a senior at good old Franklin High School in the not so small and yet not so large city of Westland. I don’t know when it actually all started. It could have been the day of my birth, being that’s when I was brought to this earth, but through the first course of the first 17 years I’ve lived on this planet virtually nothing significant to this sort of thing happened. I think it started on that fateful day, the day my life started changing, and I was setting up for a summer vacation party I was holding. It was right after my junior year in high school and my life felt complete at that time. Although my mother wasn’t with us anymore (she died when I was barely 5 years old) I had my father who loved me dearly and a semi medium group of close friends. Including my loving and oh so sweet present boyfriend Mr. Christian Brian Clark. My other friends included Jaina Cox, Maria Ruip, her love Ryan Nicholas, and my long time buddy Randy Luciano. This was our group, our cliché or any other thing people want to call it. Nothing would be the same for all of us. Nothing at all. Although I often wonder if Christian, Jaina, Maria and Ryan were really all that involved or just ended up in the cross fire.
I was setting up for the party, wondering about what will happen. I wasn’t too worried since I knew no matter what we would probably have fun, but it was the same old nerves everyone had once in a while. Not to worry, not to worry.
“DING-DONG!” The doorbell rang, startling me as a worked to get the food ready. Who could possibly be here already? Certainly not guests. At least it shouldn’t be. The party didn’t start for another hour yet. I set down the chip bowl I had on the light brown wooden coffee table while I yelled, “COMING!” to my impending guest.
I opened the heavy wooden door to find Christian standing there. “CHRISTIAN!” I exclaimed. I hugged him tight enough to make his eyes pop out. Christian was about 5’11’’, had dark black hair, chocolate brown eyes that make you melt, and wholesome all American good looks. He was the sweetest hottest guy I knew. I was lucky to have him.
“What are you doing here so early?” I asked him as I gazed into his eyes and holding his hands in mine. He gave me a lopsided grin making my heart feel like it would leap out of my chest. He has that effect on me.
“I wanted to help you set up and,” he gave me a sheepish grin, “I wanted to spend sometime with my baby before her friends came over and took her away from me.” He gave me his famous puppy dog face.
I laughed. He could be so stupid sometimes, but so sweet at the same time. “You’re such a butthead.” His face lowered even more and I grinned, “but I love you anyway.” I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him towards me to give him a passionate kiss.
When we broke apart, he gave me a big smile. “I should come here earlier more often.” He said and I laughed. We went into the house to the family room and started decorating the place. Christian worked on all the decorations, while I setting up the food while my dogs Max, a multicolored Lab-German Shepherd and Shelby, a light brown purebred Bull Mastiff were whining to go outside to play with my puppy Sassy, a black and white Collie-Lab when behind me someone suddenly pulled me backwards and on to the plush, white couch giving me a passionate kiss.
“Christian!” I exclaimed after we broke apart “What are you doing?” Christian gave me a sheepish grin.
“Break time.” He said as though that could explain the sudden motion.
“Oh Ch ...” Christian broke me off by kissing me with full force and longer, making me fall back against the soft couch. I swear I was in heaven. A half an hour later, we were still making out. It probably would have gone further if the doorbell hadn’t rung.
“Christian,” I murmured trying to get up, “the door.” I pushed him off of me and stood up. Oh my god, we were getting carried away I straightened my black shirt and brushing off my baggy jeans. Then walk towards the door backwards, looking at Christian.
“Love ya.” He said as he stood up and took my hand. We turned around and started towards the door. Leaning my head on his shoulder, I opened the door.
“TENEL!” My best friend Jaina Anne Cox caught me in a big, strangling hug, tearing me away from Christian. I was surprised to see her. In fact I was ecstatic. She was my best friend in the whole universe, but she moved away to Indiana a year and a half ago. When she left I was broken hearted, but we have stayed close friends by email and sending each other letters. Although we aren’t as close as we once were we still had that special bond.
I backed up and got a good look at her. She was wearing a tight fitting white tank top that madeher already blond hair seem blonder and baggy blue jeans. Her brown eyes sparkled as she grinned.
“Oh my god! What are you doing here?” I asked after I got over the shock.
“Well, in your last letter you talked about the party and I told my mom about it and said I wished I could be there, so she said I could stay for the week. Only if it’s okay with your dad, of course. So here I am.”
“It’ll by fine with him.”
“Um . . . Tenel, I don’t want to interrupt this private party, but who is she?” Christian asked looking thoroughly confused. I laughed softly, poor Christian was probably wondering why his girlfriend was acting so strange. I forgot they never met.
“Sorry Christian,” I grabbed his hand and pulled him forward.
“Jaina this is Christian Clark, my boyfriend. Christian this is Jaina Cox, my best friend.”
“Hey,” Christian said looking at Jaina calmly.
“Hi! I’ve heard so much about you.” Jaina smiled flirtlishly but I knew it was harmless.
“Well, don’t believe anything you hear.” Christian said smiling.
I shook my head, laughing “Hey everything I say is good . . . some of the time.”
We all laughed. I was so happy they got along.
“Come in Jaina. Put your stuff in my room. Then come into the living room and help us set up.” I dragged Christian into the living room to finish the decorations. An hour later the doorbell rang making Shelby and Max go nuts.
“Shelby, Max! Come here!” My dogs came running and I let them out, my guest were here. All of us walked to the door, Christian and I hand in hand to greet our guest. About an hour later the house was rocking. Christian and I had been making our rounds talking to friends, dancing, eating and introducing people. I introduced Christian’s best friend Randy Orion Luciano and Jaina whom hit off nicely. Randy was a funny person. Sometimes it was hard to figure out what he actually thought of you. Sometimes it seemed as though he wanted to be in his own world and didn’t need anyone at all. At other times he may seem to need you badly. Sometimes I wondered what it was that made Christian and him such good friends. While Randy was hard to figure out Christian was like a pain of glass, you always knew what you were looking at and could see right through him. He couldn’t keep a secret if his life depended on it. Anyway tonight Randy seemed to be happy which I was feeling better about. He had been feeling down for a few days so I was happy that he was happy. They seemed to make a good couple.
I made my rounds, some kids were about to get of control, but I stopped them. Then I danced with Christian. Most of the people left an hour later and Me, Jaina Christian, Randy, my friend Rachel, her boyfriend Justin, and a boy named Eric was left.
“I have to go to the bathroom. Be right back.” I whispered into Christian’s ear.
I passed the spare room and noticed there were a few more kids here. Jen Hardly, Brandon Malone, Kristy Black, and two kids I didn’t know. I opened the door to the bathroom. Horrified, I screamed for help and fainted.
