Philadelphia 115, Detroit 104 Iverson Sparks Sixers to Win

The San Francisco 49ers used their # 1 pick to pick up Alex Smith, the rookie QB from the Utah Utes. The star graduated after only 2 years of school attaining a 3.74 grade point average. Smith finished his college career with a 21-1 starting record. Smith was also named the Sporting News 2004 National Offensive Player Of The Year. He threw 180 straight passes without an interception and finished with a 6.1:1 touchdown to interception ratio. He also served as captain of his football team in his junior and senior year of high school football.

Auburn made one final case to be called the nation's best college football team. The Tigers became the first team to have an entire offensive backfield -- two running backs and a quarterback -- selected in the first round of the NFL draft since the AFL-NFL merger in 1967 and the first in the Southeastern Conference to have four first-rounders. Tailback Ronnie Brown was the second overall pick by the Miami Dolphins and Carnell Williams went to Tampa Bay three picks later. Cornerback Carlos Rogers and quarterback Jason Campbell went to Washington with the ninth and 25th picks, respectively. Auburn had never had more than two players chosen in Round 1. The Tigers went 13-0 last season, but were shut out of the national championship game and had to state their case for No. 1 off the field. The draft "showed everyone why we should have been competing for the national title this year," Campbell said.

The former star of Alaska, Cole Magner, 6-2, 196 pounds, ended his collegiate career at Bowling Green State University with a school-record 215 receptions for 2,385 yards in four seasons. His 215 receptions rank him fifth all-time in the Mid-American Conference. In his career, he caught 18 touchdown passes, threw for four touchdowns, and rushed for two scores.

By making a ton of shots, Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers still have a shot. Iverson had 37 points and 15 assists while leading an unstoppable outside assault in the fourth quarter as the 76ers climbed back into their Eastern Conference first-round series with a 115-104 victory over the Detroit Pistons. After averaging 84.5 points in Detroit, Philadelphia had 80 points - and a two-point lead - after three quarters. Facing the NBA's toughest defense, the Sixers scored 35 points in the final period, with 10 of their 11 baskets coming on mid-to-long-range jumpers. The series is now 2-1 in favor of Detroit.
