Welcome to Moondancer, this site is dedicated to the men and women of the road. A proud breed of hard working individuals who choose a lifestyle unlike any other. A world where you do a job that is so vital and yet so abused. An existence that gives you a freedom that only a REAL trucker can understand. I am not talking about the "whinny tailed steering wheel holders". I am talking about the real drivers who make the runs, get the job done and come back for more; year after year after year.
This is to the drivers who understand the beauty of dancing under the moonlight and stars, at peace with God and His world. To feel the rumble of that huge deisel engine roaring beneath you. You are alone in that cab, holding the wheel as 18 more follow in perfect step. You guide her down the road like you lead your lady in a dance, held gently, yet firmly in your arms. You dance a dance of distance and dedication; to God, family and country with a gypsy like desire. Knowing the road will eventually lead you home; and that the same road will call you back again. How can you explain that the road, and that rig are your mistress? A love that only another driver can comprehend? A love that defines the quote "a fine line between love and hate"?
It is a love that is sacrificial to some, salvation to others. To any driver it is a need that must be fulfilled. It is to truly embody the term "diesel in my blood". It is like a junkie that needs a fix, an alcoholic that needs a drink, it is a need to be free yet bound too that "damned old truck". If you don't know it....you will never understand it.
My Inspiration
I have lived and worked in the trucking industry for fourteen years now. I am the proud owner of a CDL, my husband is a driver, his brother and their father are truckdrivers. I have two of my three brothers who are drivers and LOTS of friends who drive. This is a large, thriving industry begging for common-sense, intelligent human beings, who can live this lifestyle. This is more than a job, it is truly a "lifestyle".
I have always said that "everybody can't BE a trucker and everybody surely can't be married to a trucker." I speak from experience. Many spouses are so insecure, jealous and untrusting that a marriage cannot survive, much less thrive under this pressure of consistent absenteeism. It is truly a blessing to have such a wonderful man in my life as my "Tennessee Gypsy". A man who taught me to love, to trust and just to live. He is my gift from God, my soul-mate, the love of my life. He is my "Moondancer".
To each "non-trucking" person who visits this site. I hope this enlightens you. To truckers, their families or loved ones, I hope it encourages you. I hope you will sign the guestbook with any remarks and come back soon.
May the wind be at your back and God ride with us all.
