Saiyan Saga
Dragonball Z begins with the "Saiyajin saga". The first thing that happens in this saga is a Saiyajin named Raditz lands on the Earth. He then killed a farmer, who had attacked him with a shotgun. After this he checked his scouter, looking for Gokou. He found a power level that he thought was Gokou's and flew off in search of it. When he got there he found that the power was actually Piccolo's (not Gokou's), who also attacked him. Raditz would have killed Piccolo had it not been for his scouter picking up Gokou's power level. tures Gohan and threatens to kill him if Goku does not join him. To defeat Raditz Goku must ally with Piccolo. The only thing that can kill Raditz is Piccolo's Makonkosappo, so as Goku holds him Piccolo fires at Raditz, killing him and Goku. Before Raditz dies, though, he mentions that two even more powerful Saiyajin's will be arriving on Earth in one year (Vegeta and Nappa). While Goku is training with King Kai, Gohan goes into training with Piccolo, and the rest of the Z Gang with Kami. When the Saiyans arrive they try to find the killers of Raditz. They find the Z gang and begin to attack them. Nappa kills Chaozu (Chaozu tried to self destruct and take down Nappa), Tien, Piccolo, and Yamcha was killed by the six sabamen unleashed. Goku then arrives on Earth, and rescues Gohan, and Kuririn. Goku defeats Nappa. Vegeta is ashamed that Nappa was hurt by Goku and kills him. Goku and Vegeta go at it, Vegeta goes Oozaru, and seriously injures Goku. Vegeta's tail is then cut off by Yajirobi. After this Gohan attacks Vegeta while Goku gives a spirit bomb to Kuririn. Kuririn missed but Gohan reflected it of of his hands and hit Vegeta with the spirit bomb weakening him very badly. Gohan then goes Oozaru and seriously injures him, but Vegeta still manages to escape the Earth because Goku told Kuririn not to kill him.
Frieza Saga
Next is the "Frieza saga".This begins with Popo showing Bulma a spaceship he found on Earth. This ship Kuririn Gohan and Bulma use to get to Namek, so they can use the Dragonballs there to wish their friends back (when Piccolo was killed the Earth Dragonballs dissapeared). When they get there they find out that Vegeta, Freezer, and his men have already began collecting the Dragonballs, Vegeta not allayed with freezer. Goku also begins his journey to Namek on a reconstructed Saiyan space pod, during this he begins high gravity training. Meanwhile, on Namek, Vegeta kills Zarbon, Kui, and Dudoria. Freezer calls for the Ginyu Force to get him the rest of the Dragonballs. A little after the Ginyu Force arrive on Namek, Goku also arrives, and finishes off the rest of the Ginyu Force (Goldo was already killed by Vegeta). After the Ginyu Force was defeated Goku had to heal up, because of Captain Ginyu's special attack, mind switch. While Freezer is attacking Nail, Gohan and Kuririn wish Piccolo to Namek. Freezer wins this battle but only injures Nail, because Nail told him of how he was just stalling time so that Kuririn, Gohan, and Dende could make there wish. Freezer attacks Gohan and Kuririn when Piccolo arrives however, Freezer now attacks him (who is now merged with Nail). Freezer then Kills Vegeta, and injures Kuririn (who is later healed by Dende). After seeing that Dende could heal forth form Freezer kills him. Then Vegeta takes on Freezer thinking that he is a Super Saiyajin. Goku finishes recovering then Vegeta was killed, and later starts charging a spirit bomb while Piccolo takes on Freezer. Goku hits Freezer with this spirit bomb, only injuring him though. Out of rage Freezer kills Kuririn. An enraged Goku went SSJ 1, and killed Freezer.
