A cold front will push into the mountains Friday morning with scattered light rain showers, but only rain. It will be too warm overnight for any winter weather. This front will quickly move east of the mountains during the mid-morning timeframe with a hit or miss shower and mostly cloudy skies. This front will move southeast of the Charlotte area by mid-afternoon, with partly sunny to skies developing. Highs again will reach well into the 60s, but probably a couple degrees cooler than Thursday.
Saturday... with the front to our south, chillier northeast breezes push cooler air into the area while a weak system passes through. As a result, the I-40 corridor could stand a risk of seeing light freezing rain or sleet with a few snow showers possible in far northern sections. It appears the Charlotte metro will see more cold showers than frozen precipitation. This system will not provide a heavy source of precipitation, so any wintry mix in the region will likely be more of a nuisance but will need to be monitored for any potential weather advisory.
Also, lets keep an eye on Sunday night and Monday as another quick moving system pushes into the area. Residual arctic air will enhance the risk for a wintry mix even into the Charlotte area during the morning before warming into the upper 30s to near 40 late in the day.
