| LOVELY LINA |
...My sister Lina Ross Farley was the most beautiful person in my life.
I was maid of honor at her wedding and she was truly lovely. She looked
like Lady Diana Spencer the Princess of Wales.
My sister passed away at sunrise on Easter morning 2000.
I have other sisters, and two brothers , but losing Lina was such a shock.
I had just lost another sister named Darlena in 1996.
My parents died about the same time and I am trying so hard to deal
with the pain.
Writing and sharing her love with others is my way of dealing with the pain.
...These are the letters Lina wrote to me before she passed away.
She knew she was dying, but she was very, very brave.
This first letter is dated January 6, 2000.
Hi Sue:
Thought I would write and send you Thelma's address. It will be
on the back of this letter.
Gene's hand is getting better. The finger he cut badly, is looking
really good. But he can't do any work in the garage. He is so bored being
stuck in the house.
I just talked to Mary Ann, and she is sick with the flu. She hasn't
worked any this week. She is going to try to go back to work on Thursday.
Gene and I had to go downtown Huntington, West Virginia, to apply
for a Medicare card. I stll haven't heard from them. We went to pick up
Gene's medicine. Just three prescriptions cost us $153.00 and I just don't
know what to do if they don't give us one.
Have you had any snow, yet? We had a little.
Mary said she talked to Lee and he is going to stop using the Internet?
Well, this is the fourth letter I've written today. I am getting tired.
So take care and tell John "hello," for me.

Hi:
Just to let you know it has snowed again. I hate snow.
I just keep "droppin off" going to sleep. The girls [Lina's
granddaughters] keep coming in to see if I am asleep.
I've got three more days of treatment, then I go back for
"chemo."
I put some feed out for the birds. I love watching them play.

Hi:
Got your "mailer" and can't wait to play the tapes. I have to
wait until Gina comes home to see which player I can use.
The mailman brings the mail to the door now. He knows that I am
sick, so he brings it to my door. He's not bad-looking, either! HA!HA!
Gene had a bad toothache. It's really bothering him. He needs to
take an anti-biotic.
It's really pretty outside today.
Gina just brought Kristen home. She got sick at school.
Well, I've got some more letters to write while I feel like doing
it.

...This is a poem from Lina's friend Thelma Wentz.
Today I've reached the age of 89
And so I've still got ten fingers
And all my toes
I see with my eyes and scent with my nose
Should I bring walking to a stop?
All my activities let drop?
Or should I go on with a song?
For still I like to laugh and joke
And play at games with friendly folk.
Perhaps the good Lord wants me here
Think maybe I can spread some cheer
Feel there is lots of room for greetings
Gay and laughter sound
So maybe I'll just linger around.
Thelma Wentz is a wonderful Christian neighbor
who practices what she preaches. We all love her.
I talked to Thelma on the phone today for an hour. I was
so happy to hear her voice. ___March 27, 2001. |

We still miss you, Lovely Lina.
I haven't heard a word from Gina
But I'm sure she is taking good
Care of herself and the girls.
I will try to find more photos of you
To add to your Memorial Page.
