KILLER RABBIT
Matthew John W. IV
Dan Evans
'IN EVERY BAND THERE IS A HISTORY BEHIND THE NAME'--James T. Korg-
In Killer Rabbit's case it was after their first real practice which entailed
Dan pounding away at the drums and Matt strumming like hellfire on Mr. and
Mrs. John Suding's beloved U.S. Kay brand banjo and pressing 'record' on
Dan's boom-box 1-track in his bedroom. Post-session, they were watching
"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and decided at once to name themselves
after the classic 'killer rabbit' scene. After three or four sessions, Matt
dropped the banjo and started writing spontaneous songs on either a
borrowed classical/acoustic or his own acoustic electric. Their latest
album "Dirty Ocean Songs" finds these two lo-fi pioneers at the top of
their game, having used proper equipment, hauling themselves into the
prestigious Upper Room recording studios and spending a considerable amount
of time on polishing the songs. It is only uphill from here, with a rabid
cult following, a website under construction, and tapes being sold left and
right.
MATTHEW JOHN W. IV
Matthew John W. IV was born in Sauk Centre, MN on Dec. 27th 1981 which
categorizes him Zodiak-wise as a Capricorn. When asked why he never writes
his last name, he replied "Nobody can pronounce Wavrin or spell it..." and
trailed off. He first started listening to music at a very early age and
composed songs (not unlike Mozart) on his toddler guitar and amp, with
complex chord structures and melodies and strange/eclectic vocal styles.
When asked what has changed about his songwriting he says "Not much." His
influences are too numerous and/or obscure to mention, but he is now
composing a song that is 10 minutes long, largely made up of silence.
DANIEL GORDON EVANS
Dan Evans was born in Honolulu, HI on Oct. 16th 1982 which categorizes him
Zodiak-wise as a Libra. Since he is from the east coast (the beloved Fairfax
county, VA) he has an arrogance typical of people from his locale, and
teases Matt and/or othermid-westerners for being from that region. Having
a beatnik cool about him, Dan did not read children's tales or "The Night Before Christmas" when he was younger; he instead scoured the local library and read the
works of William S. Burroughs, ("Naked Lunch" "Queer" "Junkie") Allen
Ginsberg, ("Howl") Jack Kerouac, and was also taught early on about the life of
Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey, Neal Cassidy, and Jerry Garcia. His love for drumming
and percussion started when a vision of Mickey Hart came to him in his sleep at
the age of 12 and spoke to him. He owns a TAMA drumset, a steel drum, and
other paraphenalia that is meant to be pounded on, smacked, or slapped.
After reading John Cage, he memorized almost every word of his works and
keeps his quotes in his notebooks. |
