Hello. I'm a diligent reader. I love Harry Potter. I'm in the eighth grade. But enough about me. More about Harry Potter.
Harry Potter has been an attept for censorship in 18 states, and has been tried over 20 times. But is this right? Many people think it is. But I don't. Why should Harry Potter fans be deprived of their favorite books, just because a couple of old farts can't accept that kids aren't just blithering slobs anymore? Kids are reading. They're not just lying around all day.
In my humble opinion, kids should read whatever they want. Kids are people too, and they deserve the same First Amendment as anyone over 18. Does coming of age give you the right to read whatever you want. I read Stephen King. Kids in my classes read John Grisham. Some people might call these adult books. I call them good reading for whoever wants to. But Stephen King books have plenty of curse words, violence, witchcraft, and that kind of stuff. Yet they're not banned from students. I could find a Stephen King book right now. Yet there is so much fuss over Harry Potter. Yeah, the d-word is used a couple of times, but nothing worse than that. And there is only magical violence that could never happen in Mug-er, everyday life.
So you see, on each page of this board, I have written reasons why people want to silence Harry Potter and his creator J.K. Rowling, and my response to the reason. The last page is a wrap-up of my thoughts on Harry Potter, and why he should stay alive. Read on, my friend. Hopefully you share my views on Harry Potter. |
