I just acquired my mare a month ago. She is the realization of one of my dreams. I had been longing to have my own horse for a while now, and the opportunity arose and I grabbed it, enthusiastically!! She is a 19 year old arabian mare who was shown by children most of her life, then for the past three years was used as a broodmare, to have babies, so she was only ridden for fun and not really made to work hard. So, I'm not saying it was easy having babies, ( hehe ), but she had the easy life! I mean, I am not making her work hard, but she has to get used to it again.
I spoil her, but I can't help it as she is a sweet girl and we have bonded in the short time we have been together.She tries to test me sometimes when we ride, but she will learn. She just doesn't want to work again!! I take her to graze on grass a couple days a week also, so she gets days to just be a horsey and have fun!! Her favorite thing of all time is eating, though. She is a little Miss Piggy-hehe-always looking for the treats I give her quite frequently ( do you think maybe that's why she's a little spoiled? ).

This is 'Akilah', my beautiful Arabian mare, who I had the pleaseure of taking to her first horse show with me this past Sunday! She was entered in 3 classes and won a blue ribbon and 2 second ribbons!!! I am SO proud of her. She is my little angel!! |
