Video package of the events from the championship match on Monday night.
Smackdown starts with an introduction for "hometown" favorite Earl Hebner, who apparently is from Richmond. He makes his way to the ring as we get ready for our first match.
WWF Intercontinental Championship match
Chris Jericho v. Chris Benoit
Pretty entertaining match. The let the two guys go at it for a while. Lots of chop-trading. Benoit hit the triple German suplex, and had a nice counter when Jericho tried for the Walls of Jericho. Towards the end of the match, Hebner gets involved and gets in Benoit's face. Benoit lays out Hebner, who falls out of the ring, giving Jericho the chance to waffle Benoit with the title belt. He nails the moonsault from the second rope, and a woozy Hebner counts three. New champ!
Video of Corporation X making their way toward the arena. Vince says "This is going to be a fun night."
Vince and Co. interview from the top of the ramp. Vince starts rattling off Richmond's "great" history...capital of Virginia, capital of the Confederacy, home of Jefferson Davis (gets the crowd riled up). An "@$$hole" chant makes Vince pause, and he seems sad that we "interrupted his speech." He continues by laying into Richmond's corrupt city council and how it's the home of Earl Hebner. He says that tonight, he'll add to Richmond's history by making Earl Hebner compete for the first time as a wrestler. If he doesn't, he's canned. Earl will be in a tag match. His partner...The Rock. Their opponents...X-Pac, Road Dogg, and HHH. If either Rock or Hebner gets pinned, the Rock loses the WWF Title (I assume it would be forfeited to HHH, no matter who got the pin).
Mixed-tag match
Eddie Guerrero y Mamacita v. Essa Rios and Lita
Lita is reluctant coming down the ramp, acting as if she wants no part in this match. Eddie and Essa trade a lot of the same moves we've seen from them the past few days, and Chyna gets in some licks on Essa as well. Essa nails a dropkick on Chyna while she's on the apron and Lita comes over to get a few shots in on the outside. Eventually we get to Lita and Chyna in the ring. Chyna destroys her with a powerbomb and places the foot on the chest for the 1-2-3. Cue "Mamacita!" Eddie and Chyna were over as faces in this match, by the way.
Hardcore Holly v. Kurt Angle
Angle comes down and says that the VA state motto: "Virginia is for lovers," should be extended to "Virginia is for lovers...as long as you're not related to each other." This guy is awesome. Holly comes down and says that no one cares about Kurt's philosophy, and that no one wants to hear about lovers from a 30-year old virgin. Holly and Angle go at it, with Angle eventually pretending to have blown a knee while jumping over Holly. When the ref and Holly are discussing it, Angle comes in and nails Hardcore for the win. Holly cuts off Angle's celebration, and gives him that "slam/suplex" after the bell.
Edge & Christian v. Rikishi
Handicap match. Edge and Christian come down on the ramp, and assure the fans that they're faces are now stink-free. They double team the big fella for most of the match, and eventually the thing spills to the outside. They battle out there for a while, and Rikishi sneaks in under the bottom rope and scores the count-out win, marking the first time in the "WWF Attitude" era that a ref has made it to the count of ten and actually ended a match as a result of it. After the match, the champs beat on Rikishi for a while before Too Cool makes the save. The crowd gets what they've been waiting for...Worm! Scotty nails Christian with it. The Too Cool guys give us a little dance.
Video of an interview with Hebner. He says he's not happy about having to do this, but he's got to fight to keep his job...he needs to support his family.
Video replay of the Duds actions on Trish from Backlash.
Hardys v. Test and Albert (w/o T&A)
Contrast in styles here, as the Hardys are going for the high-flying stuff, while T & A are utilizing their size advantage. Some good-looking bumps from Jeff, as usual, and Test and Albert seem to be getting a little better as a team. Put these guys in an interesting angle, and we could have something here. Anyway, finish comes when Test covers Matt for the win, but while the ref is distracted, Jeff comes flying off the top with the Swanton Bomb on the covering Test. He rolls over Matt and the Hardys get the win. After the match, Test and Albert destroy the Hardys, with test nailing an elbow on Matt from easily 3/4 across the ring. Nice spot.
Big Show (dressed as some kind of Barbarian/Viking character) v. Bull Buchanan
I'm not sure this was ever really a match, since the bell never rang, and as soon as Bull hit the ring, he pulled out some kind of stick and started going to town on Show with it. Show lost the gear early in this one and got into "Big Nasty Bastard" mode. He kicked Bull around a little before hitting two chokeslams on him. No cover, as Bull just rolled out of the ring, and the "match" was over as Show headed to the back.
Video of Steph and Tori chastising the Duds for their actions against Trish on Sunday, saying it takes some sick, pathetic men to get their pleasure from putting women through tables. When the two ladies leave, D-Von asks Buh-Buh to imagine what it would be like to put Steph through a table. The smile creeps up on Buh-Buh's face.
Video of Shane telling the Big Show that no one respects him, that he's a failure for being the first guy out of the match at Wrestlemania, and that everyone thinks he's a damn joke. Show goes for "sympathy" and gets it from the crowd.
Hardcore Championship
Crash v. Dean Malenko
This one started in the back and spills dout into the arena, as the two get into the ring. Malenko got a trash can from the bottom of the ring, but it didn't really come into play too much. Toward the end of the match, Saturn comes down and pulls Malenko off and tries for the pin himself. This leads to some arguing between the Radicals, and Crash makes the most of it and the trash can for the win/escape. The two Radicals are going after each other big time after the match, and a team of refs comes down to pull them apart.
Video of Vince telling Earl that it'll be his fault if the Rock loses the title tonight, and that he must be pretty nervous getting in the ring in front of his hometown.
Video interview with the Rock...tells Vince to take HHH, X-Pac, Dogg, roll them up into a ball and stick them straight up your candy ass. He's ready.
Video of Corporation X walking in the back.
Handicap Tag-Team WWF Title match
Rock and Hebner v. DX
Rock does all the work for his side, and is holding his own against DX. He rips off HHH's sling and goes to work on the arm. When the Rock is in trouble, Hebner tries to come in and help, but is pushed back to the corner by the real ref. Rock gets dumped to the outside, and DX corners Earl inside the ring, but the Rock makes the big save. Late in the match, all hell starts breaking loose, with Shane coming in and receiving a spinebuster. Earl low blows X-Pac, which propels him right into a Rock Bottom. Rock covers for the 1-2-3, and remains the People's/WWF Champion!
After the match, DX works over the Rock and Earl. Jericho comes down for the save, but even he can't do anything against DX. They keep the Rock down in the corner while HHH lays into Hebner, and even gives him the pedigree on the chair. HHH gets into Earl's face...
Here's where I think it will end...but, they might include this stuff for the TV taping:
Rikishi, Show, the Duds (w/table) come down. They finally get DX out of the ring, and wind up kicking the hell out of the Stooges. Patterson gets the stinkface and Brisco gets the Bubba bomb through the table from the second rope. The EMTs bring out a stretcher for Earl. He gets taken to the back with the Rock as his escort.
