| What Is Portals??? |
After my Mother's death in 1989 from Alzheimer's; and her sister Ethels' death in 1991, I became burdened with Ethel's desire to have her poems published. On my last visit with her she shared her disappointment that the only way she could get published was to pay.
My Mother never really cared to be published, she was very humble about her talent. But my Aunt really had faith in what she wrote and wanted desperately to share it with others. I also found there were others like my Aunt, who wanted to be published but could not afford to buy an expensive anthology, or enter a contest, or pay a publisher thousands of dollars to print a book of their collected works.
I determined to publish both my Aunt and my Mother; and others like them. And so, Portals was born. Then for those writers who didn't indulge in poetry, her sister PennyALiner was created.
I charge no reading fees, there are no hidden costs, no need to buy a magazine. I send a copy, free, of the first issue in which your work appears. (Only one free issue, unfortunately, because I am on social security and need to sell subscriptions and advertizing to stay in business). The magazines are also sent free to libraries and other publishers. I have subscribers from around the world.
Portals was born on February 10, 1993. PennyALiner made her debut in August, 1996.

| Youth Guidelines: 18 and under |
1) Poetry now being accepted, all styles and subjects. Preferably 30 lines or less. No pornography or explicit sexual content. Original work only.
2) Please put age, name and address on each page.
3) On contributor copy in payment. Extra copies available for $3.00 each if ordered prior to publication. After that the price is $5.00 each.
4) Biographies: $25.00, Features (3 to 4 pages of your poetry): $45.00, Photographs: $15.00, Book Reviews: $50.00.
5) Short Stories, puzzles, jokes, cartoons, drawings for PennyALiner: 500 to 1500 words. Payment 1 penny a word plus copy.
