What is goth?

What is goth? This is probably the hardest question any goth could try and answer, one may as well ask 'what is society?' as it has so many facets it defies any definitive explanation. Goth in its simplest form, is a subculture. A group of people who feel comfortable within each others company. There is no specific thing that defines what you need to do or be to fit into the goth community. People who are gothic all have different musical tastes, follow different religions, have different occupations, and hobbies. If you look it up in a dictionary you get something like: a crude uncouth ill-bred person lacking culture or refinement. Goth is not just about wearing dark clothes or wanting to die, and anyone who denies that fact, has no idea what beging goth is like - and therefore should hold thier silence. . Jennifer Mason The reason i'm putting these here is that i've never seen better definitions of goths. It's very common for people to make assumptions of other people based on general opinion. Yes, music, looks and art are very importaint parts of gothic culture and they're the most visible parts. But of course, anyone who understands at least something about individuality in this world knows that the same rule goes for everyone: if someone's black, is he just like the other black people? Are all white people just the same faceless mass. Race, culture, religion, social status they're just groups of people with something in common. It would be good for everyone to remember not to take a person for granted but unfortunately not all are that smart. ¤ Who are we? We are our own people.
