Over the years I have found many things
that have had a direct effect on both the
improvement and the worsening of my
symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
Many lifestyle and attitude adjustments
are needed if we are to remain our strongest
....both emotionally and physically!
We need this strength to fight, what I call, THE BEAST OF FIBROMYALGIA
***** First and probably the most vital thing
is to recognize the importance of reaching
PHASE 4 SLEEP. Our "Turning in for the night"
needs to be prepared for, respected by family,
and adhered to on a daily basis. Getting ready
for sleep must become a NIGHTLY RITUAL.
One hour before bedtime draw a moderately hot
bath. I highly recommend the use of EPSOM SALTS.
A very large amount is what I find works best at
draining away aches and pains and getting really
relaxed. I personally use a half of a quart with
each bath. (should have bought stock in it...LOL)
Along with the Epsom Salts, also add a small amount
of ESSENTIAL OIL to the water that you find most
pleasing to your senses.
Play a cassette or cd of any RELAXING
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC..but keep the volume low.
Shut off all lights in the bathroom and light
several CANDLES.
I also highly recommend buying an inexpensive
blow up BATH PILLOW. These are available at
most of the dollar stores and prevents further
aggravation to sore neck and shoulder muscles,
that so many of us complain about.
You do not need to stay in the bath until you
wrinkle like a prune. A good 15-20 minutes is
sufficient. However, I suggest using this time
to PRAY, to RELAX, MEDITATE and to LISTEN
for what GOD may be telling you!
I am a firm believer that God not only listens
to us, but that he speaks to us through The Holy
Spirit, if only we will listen.
After the bath, you will need to apply some good
lotion so your skin does not dry out, which may
occur from the nightly use of Epsom Salts. Use a
GOOD QUALITY SKIN LOTION that does not
contain any dyes or perfumes.
Always put on FRESHLY LAUNDERED sleepwear
and use a freshly laundered pillow case.
Once you are dressed for sleep..enjoy a cup of
SLEEPYTIME TEA. Avoid any tea with caffeine
before bedtime.
They say that READING before bedtime is beneficial.
However, it is best to avoid anything that is
dramatic or that causes your mind to become
overburdened. Avoid page-turning novels, self help
books, etc. The very best book is THE BOOK..
THE BIBLE. A 10 minute read before the lights go
out is my personal recommendation!

While no specific treatment plan works for everyone, I believe that the individuals intuition, faith, and observations have as much importance as the health care professional's knowledge and skills. My opinions are based on my life experience and my ongoing research.
