| 2001 AMA/Chevy Trucks National Motocross Series, Round 3: Highpoint Raceway, Mt. Morris, PA, May 27, 2001 Universal Studios / Honda Racing's Sebastien Tortelli finished third overall Sunday at Round 3 of the outdoor motocross nationals, increasing his lead in the championship points with a total of 124. Tortelli started off the first of the two 250cc motos (each moto is 30 minutes plus 2 laps) in 10th position. The young Red Rider moved methodically around the field and eventually closed in on 3rd place Kevin Windham. Tortelli tried a last lap pass but would finish in 4th place. The second moto for "Seb" was scripted much like the first, except that the number 13 factory CR250R would cross the finish line 3rd, securing third place overall for the day behind overall winner David Vuillemin. "I really want to win the championship...that's the plan, said Tortelli. "It will take smart riding and a little luck, but I feel up to the challenge and will give it my all". Honda's Ryan Hughes is quickly adapting to the new CRF450R four-stroke motocrosser. "Ryno" rode hard in moto 1, getting bumped by teammate Tortelli early in the race. Hughes would follow Tortelli's blazing pace and end up close behind the Frenchman and the checkered flag, securing the 6th place spot. Hughes, like Tortelli rode a consistently strong 2nd moto race and ended up finishing 6th again, giving him 6th overall for the day. AMSOIL / Dr. Martens / Journeys / Competition Accessories / Honda rider Mike LaRocco showed the Mt. Morris crowd why he is the "Rock". LaRocco was forced to charge from the back of the pack in both motos. Rock would end up with a 5-9 finish for the day and a 7th overall. Red Rider Ezra Lusk fought hard as well and walked away from Highpoint with a 14-7 for the day, and an 11th place overall finish.
