This is a little page for those who are new to the FF2/4 HardType version of the game (like me!) Since some of the battle stuff is different (and harder!) here's a couple of tips:
*Remember, this is strictly for pple new to game only! People who have played it before will be extremely bored with this page and should go on to the Secrets page! :)*
Order
With this command you can change the order of the characters. Select the character you want to move, then the slot you want to move him into.
Row
Choose Row and press the X button to switch between front row and back row.
You cannot select front row or back row individually. With five party members, you can either have three characters in front row or three characters in the back row. Use both Order and Row to set up your preferred formation.
What does this all mean? Well, put your weaker characters in the back, like Rydia and Rosa. In the back they will recieve less damage, but equipped with Bows will also attack with the same power as if they were in the front row. Put stronger characters like Cecil and Edge in the front row. They will recieve more damage but will give more damage as well, and you wont have to worry since they have more HP.
This goes for enemies too! Defeat the enemies in the front row first, as they will hit you with more force then the enemies in the back row, then worry about the other enemies!
In the new version (as found in Final Fantasy Chronicles) you can change weapons while in Battle. From the item window, select the weapon that you want to use. Next, continue pressing up until the Weapon Menu appears. Choose the weapon you want to replace and press the X button. This way you could change which weapon you use every turn if you wanted to, which is great when you have people equipped with Bows and their Arrows run out in the middle of battle! (its happened to me!... always have a Rod on hand!)
Row, Parry, and Escape
During battle, press the left directional button to access the Row command. Use this command to switch the parties battle formation between front row and back row.
Press the right directional button to access the Parry command. Use this command to raise your defense power.
Press the L1 and R1 buttons simultaneously to escape. You cannot escape from Bosses.
Character Tips
Edward: You can use his Hide command when you dont need him to attack so that you can keep his HP high. Other than that just keep using his Heal command every turn to keep the parties HP high. Dont bother with the Sing command as it rarely works. And try to keep him in the back row.
Cecil: Dont use his Dark command unless its a big party of weak enemies! Remember that the Dark command takes out some of his HP, and never use it against a Boss! Of course, Cecil should always be in the front row.
Rosa: Equipping her with Bows and Arrows (at the beginning of the game) is the best until you can find her stronger Rod weapons to use. Always put her in the back row, and remember that the Pray command doesnt always work!
Rydia: Also equip her with Bows and Arrows (in the beginning) and keep her in the back row. It may sound dumb, but the Chocobo summon works great in the beginning of the game!
Tellah: Give him a Rod and stick him in the back row. His Recal command rarely works so I always stick to his Black magic commands.
Edge: Keep him in the front row (of course) and remember to save weapons for him to throw. Try to steal alot from enemies and save the stronger weapons for the Final boss. And remember that he'll eventually learn Smoke, which will let you Escape from an enemy (except Bosses) 100%
Yang: Keep him in the front row and equip him with two Claws. Use his Kick on lots of enemies and his Bear and Power commands during Boss Battles.
Kain: Use jump as much as possible since his weapon isnt highly accurate and keep him in the front row.
Cid: Get him a weapon from Mythril village and keep him in the front or back rows. |
