New Game+ & Endings
Well, it might only take about 30hrs to beat the game (compared to 60hrs to beat any FF game), the playback factor is awesome. Go through the game completely once and beat it and you get the chance to start a new game with all the levels, items, and magic that you had in the previous game. Plus for each ending a different extra feature is opened, like the music, movies, enemy data, and treasure maps!
How do you get a different ending? Beat the game once normally, then play it on New Game+ and the ending you get depends on when you defeat Lavos:
Warning! Spoilers ahead, dont read this unless you've already beaten the game once! I MEAN IT!!!
Endings
Beyond Time
Extra Features unlocked: "New Game+" Mode, Endings Menu.
This is the best ending in the game and the one that you get by ressurrecting Crono and defeating the game normally, ie you've been to every age and done every event, etc. This ending features the Moonlite Parade (part of the Millenial Fair) and opens New Game+ Mode. There are variations on this ending depending on whether you recruited Magus, if Frog defeated Magus single-handedly, and if Lara is still walking or not. For the first time I reccomend recruiting Magus, and then having Frog defeat him the second time. Plus with this you get the great ending movie!!! (cool for you Chrono Cross fans too, kinda shows ya a prolouge to CC, ie Lucca+Marle+Schala you know what I mean.)
Magus Victorious
This is the ending you get if you lose to Magus in his castle, and he summons Lavos just like he plans... (sigh) this isnt reccomended, besides you dont get any extras!
Reunion Ending
Extra Features Unlocked: "New Game+" Mode, Art Gallery, Present Monster Data.
This is an ending where you defeat the game after going to all of the time eras etc but without resurrecting Crono. After beating Dalton and regaining the Epoch, use the bucket at the End of Time and defeat Lavos. This ending varies on whether you recruited Magus and whether you used to Epoch to fly to 1999 AD. (This one sounds cool!)
The Dream Project
Extra Features Unlocked: Middle Ages Monster Data; Triple in Tech Showcase.
In New Game+ only, use the shining dot on the right pod of Lucca's device at the Millenial Fair, right after Marle joins up with Crono in Leene square (very hard to do!) or beat Lavos in the Ocean Palace before Crono's sacrifice. Speak to all of the characters and you'll learn about Crono Trigger's development from the team itself!
The Successor of Gaurdia
Extra Features Unlocked: Future Monster Data, Single in Tech Showcase.
In New Game+ only, defeat Lavos with Crono and Marle by using the shiny dot on the right pod of Lucca's device at the Millenial Fair, right after defeating Yakra and returning from 600 AD. You must do it before the trial. Beat Lavos and you'll return to Leene square, where everyone has changed their attitudes towards Marle....
Good Night Ending
Extra Features Unlocked: Treasure Maps for Dark Ages&End of Time, Music 11-20
Defeat Lavos right after the Old Man explains how the bucket at the End of Time works (when you first go there) and before the battle with Zombor at Zenan Bridge. The credits include alot of funny monster antics.
Legendary Hero
Extra Features Unlocked: Dark Ages Monster Data, Music Box 21-30
This one happens during the chapter called "The Hero Appears". After slaying Zombor, defeat Lavos before recieving the Hero Medal from Tata. Immediately go back to Truce Canyon to the End of Time and use the bucket. Defeat him and you'll see an alternate ending where Crono is King and confronted by Tata, and Robo has a GF (?!) :P
(this one sounds cool too!)
The Unknown Past
Extra Features Unlocked: Music Box 31-40, Treasure Map for Present.
After seeing Tata chased out of the Denadoro mountains, go to his house and speak to him. Take the Hero Medal from him and return to Truce Canyon. Use the gate to go back to the End of Time, and use the bucket to fight Lavos. This ending features the affect of quitting now on all the tasks you didnt perform yet, having missed two entire periods of time (eeeww i dont like this ending.)
People of the Times Ending
Extra Features Unlocked: Music Box 41-50, Treasure Maps for Middle Ages.
This ending features the non-playable characters encountered in the game. Go to the End of Time and use the bucket to defeat Lavos right after defeating Nizbel and reclaiming the Gate Key from Azala at the Reptite Lair.
The Oath
Extra Features Unlocked: Music Box 51-60
This is an alternate ending where Frog goes to Magus' lair alone and defeats his nemesis, breaking the curse. To view it, return to the End of Time and use the bucket immediately after giving the completed Masamune to Frog at the Cursed Woods (sounds cool!)
Dino Age
Extra Features Unlocked: Prehistoric Age Monster Data, Treasure Maps for Future
Reptites dominate the planet instead of humans! After defeating Magus at his castle and being transported to 65000000 BC, return to the Mystic Mountains and return to the End of Time. Beat Lavos using the bucket, and this funny ending will occur... (reccomended!)
What the Prophet Seeks...
Extra Features Unlocked: Dual in Tech Showcase, Treasure Maps for Prehistoric Age.
After the fall of the Tyrano Lair and before Schala opens the magic seal in the Ocean Palace, use the bucket to defeat Lavos. Much ado about Magus occurs.
A Slide Show?
This is a silly ending where Lucca and Marle review a lot of stuff that supposedly happened during the game, but they're making it all up! Moreover, Crono actually speaks! What balloney! :P To view it, follow Schala through Zeal Palace until she opens the door with her pendant. DO NOT USE THE PENDANT AT THE MAMMON MACHINE! Return to the Time Gate in the cave on the ground below and enter it. At the End of Time, use the bucket to engage Lavos. FUNNY!! (reccomended!)
PS: Movies 3 and 11 are opened no matter what ending you get the second time. Enjoy!
