PAPER

RECYCLED PAPER FROM OLD NEWSPAPERS

You'll need:

A food processor, electric iron, old wire hanger, old pair of panty hose, newspaper or other paper torn into 2-inch squares, White gluemwater, strainer or insect screen, food coloring (optional) and a big sink or tub filled with 4-inches of water.

This is a messy job, so make sure you have plenty of room.Put 2 tablespoons of white glue in sink

1. Make a square or rectangle shape from the hanger. Stretch on leg of panty hose over shape very carefully and make sure it is tight and flat.

2. Put a handful of torn paper and some water into blener and mix on high until it's mushy. Add paper and water until you have a big grey blob. Keep food processor on until paper disappears and leave on for 2 minutes.

3. Put 2 tablespoons of glue in the sink water and add all the pulp you just made. Mix well using your hands.

4. Scoop frame to bottom of sink and lift slowly. (Count to 20 slowly while lifting.) Let water drain off for about a minute.

5. Hang frames on clothesline or put out in the sun. Wait til they're completely dry, no dampness at all and gently peel off the paper.

6. Set iron on hottest setting to steam out paper. Keep making paper til the pulp is all strained out of sink Mix up the sink every time you make a new piece.

7. Experiment by adding food color, lint or leaves for texture while mixing in the blender.

8. If you recycle color inkjet paper, the color may run but it can be an interesting effect. Try using different papers to see what you get.
