Pieces of the SHINDLER Puzzle Switerland Missouri Narcissus Dillon |
 |
James Schindler, supposedly from Switerland, Emigration year unk.. Parents unk. Married Narcissus Dillon cira.1869-1870. Narcissus was born Mercer, Vir.1848-49. Her parents being George R. and Elizabeth Dillon.
Found in the 1880 Montgomery co. Missouri census.
Together they had 3 children. Barbara Anne(annie) b.Mo 1871; John,(possibly Thomas) b.1874 Mo; Albert Benjamin b.1876 Mo.
Story is that James wanted to return to Switerland and Narcissus didn't want to go. Supposedly a divorce took place(no proof of that has been found).
The father left to return to Switerland?
We believe that the family name was changed after the father left. The orginal spelling being SCHINDLER.
The family was found again in the 1900 Collin co. Census, without James being listed.
Narcissus was listed in the 1900 Collin Cty census, as Nar Gregory, she was listed as living with John SHINDLER and family. No mention to ? Gregory. Was this a second unknown husband?
Narcissus then married Elijah WILLIAMS, also a Baptist preacher. In the yr?. Her obit listed the m. yr as 1888 (even though the 1900 census listed her as a GREGORY). Elijah had a son named Will,(we think). And a unknown daughter. They lived the Altoga, Blue Ridge, Snowhill areas of Collin Cty. Nar. d.7/3/1938; Elijah d.abt 1936. Both are buried in the Altoga Cemetery.
Barbara Anne Shindler married Benjamin Webster Jeffcoat b.3/11/1869 on Dec.12,1869. Together they had several children:
Edna,b.? married Stanley Davis
Alvin,b. 12/30/1892 d.9/29/1984,he married Fannie May Reeves,b.3/23/1917
Ida,b.? married Claude Murphy
Oscar,b.12/26/1898 d.10/1972,married Bessie Kyle
Clarence,b.? married Merzie Reeves
"Webster" Jeffcoat was reportedly a preacher and they stayed in the Collin co. area until their deaths. Both are buried in the Snowhill cemetery.
John Shindler b.1874 d.1907 married Lydia Anne(e) Thompson on 4/19/1892. Together they had several children. The 1900 census had the childrens names as:
Thos b. 2/1893
Maud b. 11/1896
Bessie b. 11/1897
I later ran across another name, without a birth.
Emily
John died of Typhoid Fever in 1907 and is buried beside a infant daughter that died in 1903. Both are buried in the Snowhill Cemetery.
Supposedly Lydia remarried a gentleman with the last name of Dixon and they moved to Marshall Co. Okla. What happened to this family?
I now have in my possession the orginal marriage certificate for these two. The marriage cert. is dated April 18, 1892. They never picked it up from the court house.
Albert (my gg-grandfather) married Mary Ellen JOHNSON 8/6/1905 in Princeton, Tx. At the home of her father William Robert JOHNSON. M.E. b.5/3/1888. They resided in Altoga, they had 6 children, 5 prior to his death of T.B., and 1 child after his death.
The children of this marriage are as follows:
Lillie b. 2/20/1907
Alice b.10/5/1908
infant b. 8/28/1910-8/29/1910
Hester b. 12/9/1911
Jesse b. 2/19/1915- 11/99
Albert was a bronc buster and a blacksmith by trade. Had a Blksmith shop in Ardath. and according to his children he could cook, sing, sew , play music, and wanted to be a doctor. Amazing isn't it.
I now have the original marriage certificate for these two. Cert. dated August 5,1905.
After his death in 12/28/1914. His widow remarried .
Mary Ellen Shindler m. Benjamin Conger and they had 4 children, 2 of them lived. They left the Collin Cty area, and resided in the Crosby Cty area.
Going through my gtgrandmothers scrapbook,i found an obit with the following names, no dates could be found, and i don't know how this family fits. I don't even know the news paper it came out of.
