| The following story may seem like an unlikely story, because many refuse to believe it’s truth. But still, it happened. On a hot summers day, young Erclon was herding the goats. Armed only with a sling and a dagger, together with a pouch full of pebbles for his sling he was supposed to keep an eye on the goats, and make sure no one would be killed by wolves and/or wander off. And though young Erclon was doing the best he could, one of the younger sheep wandered of and got lost. He didn’t notice until his father came along and asked if there were any problems. ‘No no,’ he said, ‘I’m just counting again. Four hundred thirty-three, eh. One’s missing,’ he said and looked his father straight in the eye. ‘It’s Blackhoof’ he proclaimed. ‘Well then, go and look for it!’ his father commanded. ‘I’ll be back here later on and then you’d better have Blackhoof back’ his father ordered. Young Erclon was worried. What was he supposed to do? But then, suddenly, he heard Blackhoof's cry. It was followed shortly after by the lonely cry of a wolf. Now young Erclon understood he didn't have much time to waste. He whistled for Hardhead, one of the larger males and mounted it. He'd never tried something like this before, but the goat was much bigger than the young dwarf and one of the largest goats around. With his sling in one hand he rallied the other goats into a tight mass and then send Hardhead off to where he'd heared Blackhoof's call moments earlier. It didn't take him long before he found Blackhoof. The young goat had wandered of and climbed one of the nearby mountain cliffs. Hardhead jumped up with as much ease as he would have done without Erclon and together they brought Blackhoof down again. With the stray goat up front, Erclon rode back to the valley where he left the other goats and sent Blackhoof back into the herde and at that same moment Erclon's father returned and saw his son riding triumphant on top of the big goat. And this is how the Goat Riders were born. Young dwarf lads (and sometimes lasses), riding one of the larger goats to retrieve missing livestock or to patrol through the dangerous mountain passes impossible for a dwarf to reach on his own.
Goat riders are younger dwarfs and that's why they're not as skilled as their elder kinsmen. Because they're working with slings all the time they get a +1 to hit modifier when armed with slings. Goatriders wear light armour and are armed with slings and hand weapons. Any Goat Rider may be armed with shields at +1 points per model and with spears at +1 points per model. SPECIAL RULES: SKIRMISH: Goat riders can skirmish. This means they have a -1 to hit penalty when shot at and all the other rules are described in the warhammer rules book.(I'll get back to y'all as soon as possible on that!) WOOLY FUR: The large goats usually go into battle unshaved. This is because the dwarfs would think of riding into battle on a pink goat, and they wouldn't have the hearts to do it to their animals. But the advantage of their wooly fur is the fact that arrows and other ammunition shot from normal shooting units (e.g. non warmachines and the likes), may get lost in the wooly fur. For this reason, any shots made directly towards the goats gets a nother -1 to hit modifier. Combat Bonus: The goats have huge horns on their heads and they can give quite a punch when they charge. The impact of a goat therefor has a +2 strength bonus when charging. This bonus goes only for the goat and not the dwarf rider. |
