 AMY
Sailor Mercury’s earth name is Amy or Mizuno Ami. Amy is the Sailor scout of ice, She is the Princess of Mercury, her home planet. She is very intelligent and cautious of the things that go on around her which sometimes ends up working to her disadvantage in certain situations. Amy indulges herself in many different type of intellectual persuits in between hangin' out with Serena, Raye, Lita, and Mina that is. As her Senshi counterpart, Sailor Mercury, she is able to use her high-tech gadgets and mastery of ice and water to plan the best attacks to bring down the enemy as efficiently and quickly as possible. Amy is reconized as the 2nd sailor scout, Sailor Mercury, towards the beginning of the 1st season of the SM series. Serena and Molly see a new girl in the halls of Juuban Junior High. At that moment, Melvin runs up to the Serena and tells her the "dirt" on the new girl; her name is Amy and in her previous school, she got the best grades and had the highest IQ. Later on in the same episode, Serena and Luna think that Amy is a NegaVerse/Dark Kingdom spy. Then, they go to Amy and find out that Amy really isn't at fault, but a NegaVerse monster posed as a teacher! While Sailor Moon and Luna watch the monster press amy's head against a computer screen, they see the mark of the planet, Mercury, appear and flash on her forehead Luna then throws the Mercury the transformation brooch to Amy and Amy morphs into Sailor Mercury, guardian of the planet, Mercury! Amy's character changes the most from the beginning of the 1st SailorMoon season to SailorMoon S.
In the beginning, Amy seems like the stereotypical, male kowtowing style woman, or wife which made her very appealing to many males back in Japan. She wasn't really that outspoken of a character like Serena and Raye have always been. Nut as the series goes on, Amy becomes more outgoing, vocal, and opinionated. Without a second notice, many people would say that Amy is a weak character with not much importance. But to fans Amy is a strong character with many overlooked points. One of Sailor Mercury's highest points in the SM series is in the SM Sailor Stars series. Queen Nehelenia breaks free of her mirrored seal to keep her young forever, but at the same time, keep her in eternal solitude. Through many battles, the Senshi both Outer and Inner are separated, and Sailors Mercury and Uranus happen to be with each other (in a mystical place that Nehelenia inhabits). There's one problem: Uranus and Mercury are surrounded by Nehelenia mirror clones that are attacking! To defeat them, they must find the mirror clone that acts as the "power source" for all of the other ones. Uranus wants to blast everything away (and risk being killed in the process), but Mercury insists that they analyze the situation first and find any weaknesses in Nehelenia's plot. While Sailor Mercury uses her "patented" VR visor, Sailor Uranus takes the brunt of Queen Nehelenia's attacks, buying Mercury time. SUCCESS! Mercury finds the mirro to destoy and deminishes it, killing the other mirror reflections as well. When Sailor Uranus asks how Sailor Mercury found the right mirror to get rid of, Sailor Mercury said that when she was scanning the mirrors, all of them had Nehelenia's hair waving in the wind, EXCEPT for the one she (Mercury) had identified. Uranus then compliments Mercury on her keen sense of observation.
"Don't judge a book by its cover" fits perfectly for Amy. Without amy, no one would be as successful in breaking up Serena's and Raye's "fights". Without Sailor Mercury, the Senshi would rush into battle and possibly have their lives taken "many times over"! Amy's character in vital for the success of the Inner Senshi and of the SailorMoon series.
