The State University of New York's Center for International Development is a University-wide institution that designs and implements international technical assistance and training projects, conducts policy-oriented research, and contributes to both the theory and the practice of international development. Through its in-country development projects, and its conferences, publications, research, and outreach activities, the Center works to enhance the capacity of developing nations to meet critical challenges.
Located in Albany, New York State's capital city, the Center draws upon the State University of New York's vast intellectual and technical resources and serves as a key component of the university's overall commitment to excellence in international education, cross-cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
The Afghanistan Parliamentary Assistance Project (APAP)
The Afghan Parliamentary Assistance Project (APAP) is a three year project funded by USAID, headed by The State University of New York (SUNY)’s Center for International Development (CID) working in conjunction with ARD, Inc. APAP is designed to strengthen the Afghan government's capacity to establish and develop a new parliament that is able to operate as a strong, independent and effective legislative, representative, and oversight body. APAP has three objectives:
1. Develop specific institutional capacities in the National Assembly of Afghanistan
2. Improve the capacity of the National Assembly members, the public and civil society groups, and
3. Improve linkages between the National Assembly and the society.
