[Scene 4: School Hallway]
JAYCI:
(carrying stack of books almost as high as her head, walking down hallway, muttering to herself)
Darn that Mrs Demerick... why do I always have to carry the English books?...
(mimicking Ms Demerick's style of speech)
Oh no, Jayci, Tommy cant carry the books, hes weak! Why dont you do it?... damn, why on earth did stupid Mr. Demerick marry her in the first place?
They're all crazy...
(goes to Teachers Room, tries to push door open with her back, frustrated)
(ALEX is inside the Teachers' Room, pushes door open, it pushes into JAYCI, she stumbles forward and falls, drops books on floor)
ALEX:
(sees JAYCI, rushes to her, offers a hand)
Hey, Im sorry, are you okay?
JAYCI:
(frustrated & annoyed)
What?!? Do I look like I'm okay?!? Why dont you look at where youre going before you crash into people!
(ignores ALEXs hand, gets up, dusts herself off, starts to pick up books)
ALEX:
(slightly taken aback)
What? I mean, I'm sorry for banging into you like that, but it wasnt completely my fault there. What were you doing with your back to the door? You werent being careful yourself.
JAYCI:
(annoyed face)
Screw you.
ALEX:
(angry)
Screw yourself!
JAYCI:
Whatever.
ALEX:
(senses that JAYCI is in a bad mood, relents)
Look, Im sorry. If its anything, Im Alex...
JAYCI:
(exasperated)
You know what? I dont wanna hear it, okay, Alex? This day just totally sucks enough, much less with you in it.
ALEX:
(loses his cool)
Fine! The books?
JAYCI:
Ill get them.
ALEX:
Fine.
JAYCI:
Fine.
ALEX:
(exasperated)
Whatever. Im going, man. (walks off)
JAYCI:
Whatever.
(grudgingly picks up books, muttering to herself)
Just my luck to meet up with such a jerk... this day cant get any worse.
(MRS DEMERICK & MR. DEMERICK walk lovingly towards the teachers room, pass ALEX, who is walking off in a huff)
MRS DEMERICK:
(sees JAYCI picking up the books, gasps in horror)
Jayci Claudia Enriquez!
JAYCI:
(mutters to herself)
Uh-oh. This is not good.
(turns towards MRS DEMERICK with a dazzling smile)
Mrs Demerick! Mr. Demerick! It's both of you! At the same time! What a coincidence! (feigns ignorance)
Is there a problem?
MRS DEMERICK:
You bet there is. What are the books I assigned you to carry to my table doing all over the floor?
JAYCI:
(starts to explain)
Well, Mrs Demerick, you see, what happened was...
MRS DEMERICK:
Save it, Ive heard them all.
(puts hand to head in mock faintness)
Oh Harold, hold me!
MR DEMERICK:
Cynthia! Are you alright?
(catches MRS DEMERICK, looks at JAYCI)
Youre meeting up with me in the detention room after school, young lady!
JAYCI:
(groans, mutters to herself)
You've gotta be kidding me.
(sighs, continues picking up books) |
