Welcome to Crystalin, where the laws of nature are not necisarily in order, and those with the most magic rule supreme. The magic comes from the crystals in the mountains, and having crystals of your own can make you powerful. With magic, all kinds of things can happen, from making things that should be, not, and things that should not, be. Every person has some magic power, and all magic power ties in with the elements. That power only grows with experience.
But something desasterous has happened. Crystalin's guardian, Gryphon, failed in his quest to stop the daemons, and they have broken loose. Hordes of demons and their daemon lords have broken free from the Underworld, and have laid waste to the land of Crystalin. The survivors, desperate, teamed up and created for themselves an armored city, Palan, "the protected" in the ancient toung. It's name itself, a word of power, provides protection, but only for those within the extensive city's walls.
The most powerful wizards, necromancers, sorcerers, sorceresses, witches, and mages set out to fix this. They cast a powerful spell over the lands surrounding Palan, altering the landscape to include most kinds of land with which to draw elemental power. Then they, aided by Gryphon, who channeled and provided all the power for the spell, created a shield that will keep out almost all demons and daemons. The demons and daemons attempted to shatter the sheild, but all efforts failed.
To this day, however, they still want in, to lay waste to the last resistance to their power. For daemons, too, draw their power from the elements, and Gryphon used a powerful artifact to channel most of Crystalin's elemental energy into the various lands created by the spell shapers. Gryphon soon after, too weak to do anything else, went into a coma-like state and could not be revived. The P'norin monks charged themselves with his safe-keeping, and have taken him somewhere unknown to anyone else. All anyone knows is that his resting place is somewhere inside the Shield....
Even past all this there are problems. The dark ones, a cult of daemon worshipers, wish to find the Sheild artifact and destroy it in order to aid the daemons. They are merciless in their task, but very hard to discover. There are also many feuding factions, though the many speicies of Crystalin get along suprisingly well. Several people would like to rule all, however.
As a final note, the She Dragon, probably one of the largest and most powerful beings in all of Crystalin, has also vanished without a trace.
And so it stands. Crystalin is beseiged by daemons and their minions, humans and human-like creatures have all fled to Palan, power-hungry fools wish to control everything, anybody could betray you in a heartbeat if they are a Dark One, and two of Crystalin's most powerful beings, Gryphon and the She Dragon, have disappeared.... |
