ME THE ARTIST MY INSPIRATION FOR PAINTING/WHO INSPIRES ME
My name is Jason Shakespeare and i have been drawing and painting like most people from a very early age, I am self taught and have developed my own style of drawing and painting, each time i pick up a brush or a pencil and draw or paint, i get better, alot of people over the years that have seen my work have told me that i am good enough to do this on a proffessional level, and it would be my ultimate dream to do this for a living. When i was younger, all the other boys would run off to play football and do what ever, and i would not pay any attention to that, i would pick up a pencil and draw, to pass away the time, and all of the other boys would stare at me cross eyed for this. Even when i had no pencil and could not afford any paper, i would pick up a biro pen and use the back of an old envelope and that would be used has my canvas. Sometimes i would sit for six or seven hours flat, and draw untill i was pleased with what i was working on, and has time went by, has i would draw, the family began to notice the improvements that i was making, and everytime i drew or painted i would develope a small group of family members over my shoulder. I have sold work on and off to people over the years, and have even given work away that i had lieing around the house, because i feel that a picture should be displayed and not hidden away, and sometimes the work that i had given away to somebody attracts attention by their friends and family members and it ends up were they want something done has well. Every day i get inspired, alot of people ask me " were did you get that idea from", and i always tell them the picture developes itself, has i am creating it, perhaps its something from a higher power or something, or just instinct, who knows, but something in my head tells me has i am painting the picture what is working inside the picture, and what does not work well with the picture, so its changed or removed, and before you know it, you got a picture. I get inspired from everything, i could see a bird or animal while watching TV, and that would inspire me to draw that animal, and then has i,m drawing that, i could see a landscape from a photo, or in my minds eye that would work well with the painting and i would put that in, and then see trees in the distant, and there you go, one painting ready for the wall. I also get inspired by other artists work to, when ever i see a good picture, it pushes me to try and be has good in what i am going to be painting next, i also learn alot just by looking at others work, because the techniques that they have used are also on display, along with what colour and how they have put in objects into their work, everything is a learning process and its just another thing that inspires me, and keeps me going forward. The final inspiration that i have is my grandads work, growing up drawing and painting, my mother always told me, your just like your grandad, thats were you get it from, but i never payed no attention to it. up untill last year i had never seen or spoken with my grandad for well over fifteen years, due to a split in the family, so when i got the chance to meet back up with him last year, i was blown away with the artwork that he had produced that littered the walls of his house. He is so down to earth when it comes to his paintings and thinks nothing of them, but just has a mere hobby to pass away the time, he has sold work on a proffessional level, and even told me they through him out of art school because they thought that he was wasteing their time, and did not believe either that he was also self taught. I have one of his paintings on my wall at home which he gave and signed for me and even when people walk into my house it grabs everybodys attention, and thats powerfull.
TYPES OF WORK THAT INTREST ME/WHAT I LIKE WORKING IN DETAILS ABOUT MY WORK/ BUYING WORK FROM ME
I like all types of painting and drawing, but the ones that i like working with the most are, Watercolour and Acrylic, I think that these both produce some of the most colour and powerful pictures, and they help me the most with what i am trying to create when i am working on a picture. Every one of the great Artists you read about had his or her own style and working method, and i think its the same with artists like myself, you go with what you know and what makes you a better painter. I have tried various other techniques and styles such has Oils and Pastels Charcoal, and produced some good work but i get the most and benefit more from useing the methods that i use. Alot of people who look at my work always say to me, " I could never sit and do anything has good has that", and i always tell them, yes you could, I do not believe in good and bad, i think that there are different levels of knowledge, i am at a higher level of knowledge, being self taught with all its pitfalls trial and error, has made me a better artist, because once you make the mistake, you learn from it and avoid it the next time, and with doing this i know now what will work within a picture and what won`t work, even now i still make mistakes, with each new picture that i create it teachs me more, you never stop learning, i learn something new or how to do something faster and better with every new painting. Given the time and the equipment anybody could produce good work, its like when a person starts a new job, you know nothing a first, then you learn and get better, starting off at the bottom, and slowly start to work your way up, and thats what i call the learning levels. If you are intrested by any of the artwork displayed within this site or want to inquire about anything else you can contact me anytime on the relevant contact details within this site, also ask if there is any type of work that you are looking for in perticular has i have well over a hundred works within my home, and could not put them on this site due to site space, these paintings and drawings range from, cottages, street scences, all types of wildlife and birds, and many more all come framed mounted signed and dated and some come in collections of three, i also have and will draw or paint from photos this could be a family pet of yours or a member of your family for that special occassion or something that you wish to display on your walls, thanks for taking the time to read this and i hope to speak to you soon.
