36) Further Seems Forever - How to Start a Fire

35) Maroon 5 - Harder to Breathe

34) The Used - Greener With the Scenery

33) Shinedown - Fly From the Inside

26) The All-American Rejects - The Last Song

25) Brand New - The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows

24) The Used - Poetic Tragedy

23) AFI - Girls Not Grey

22) The Used - Buried Myself Alive

21) The Ataris - In This Diary

(And now the best 20 songs of the year according to myself. Be ready for a few surprises...)

20) Fuel - Falls on Me
"And all of your wings, all your dreams, falls on me, it falls on me..."
Finally following up from their awesome song "Hemorrage" back in 2000 and 2001, "Falls on Me" falls short from that alternative rock classic. But Fuel's sappy rock/love message still burns alive and the talent and lyric writing remains there. They just need to mix up their songs a bit now and then...

19) Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down (A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar)
"Hands down this is the best day that I can ever remember..."
THIS IS JT'S HIGHEST RANKING DASHBOARD SONG????? THAT'S FUCKING BLASPHEMY!!!!!
Yeah, I was quite shocked myself. But with the new direction Chris Carrabba has taken Dashboard, it's hard to put them up in the elite of the year. However, in defense of Dashboard, you just need to remember that they're music is all about the whiny lyrics, not about an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar... ::as I get beaten over the head by "old school" Dashboard supporters::

18) Outkast - Hey Ya
"Shake it like a polaroid picture..."
Taylor 1 South's most celebrated song, it was impossible to kick the beat out your head or prevent someone from doing some rediculous dance to it.

17) Big Tymers - Still Fly
"Gator boots, with the pimped out Gucci suit..."
Being stylish and poor is the message of this Big Tymer classic, and stylish and poor is what I may have to amount to in the coming year of 2004. Oh yeah, and if this song was about me, it would say "Got a sixteenth of a tank of gas" as opposed to the "quarter". But if you listen closely and follow my life around in 2004, I'm sure you'll understand how this suits me very well...

16) The Used - Blue and Yellow
"Well you'll never find it, if you're looking for it..."
The only problem with this song is too many people liked it.
Yeah, that sounds like a rediculous statement, but it's nice to like a song BEFORE it becomes the trendy thing to listen to. It's just the kind of guy that I am. Surprisingly, this may be the first song ever to promote being lethargic and just sitting on your ass and hoping the best comes to you instead of looking for it yourself... quite questionable, but very thought-provoking, nonetheless.

15) Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without the 'E' (Cut From the Team)
"And will you tell all your friends, you've got your gun to my head..."
One of the more "fun, jump around, and scream the song" types of the year, the lead singers voice is quite amazing. Unfortunately in 2003, 2 of the original band members left and formed "Straylight Run", which I feel is actually better than TBS (as you'll see later on in the countdown). My guess is, with a great voice like that, the lead singer thinks he's hot shit and is a major dickcheese...

14) Mest - Jaded (These Years)
"And I'll never regret these years..."
One of a billion songs about enjoying your youth and having no regrets, I feel this one probably tells the message best out of them all. Mest came out of left field with this one as I didn't think their songs were all that hot, but damn, this one is super good, and good when you wanna look back at your youthful and fun past.

13) 50 Cent - In Da Club
"You can find me in da club..."
The Michigan trip anthem, this song was played about 200 times during that week. It also unlocked re-interest in the rap genre because if you haven't noticed back in 2001, or 2002, there was no rap on the countdown. This just goes to show you the power of 50. Rap has never been so good as it was in the year of 2003 and hopefully, it only gets better ::crossing fingers::

12) Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
"It's a damn cold night, trying to figure out this life..."
Originally debuting last year on the countdown, this song stuck with me in 2003 and goes down as one of the very best of the year. Avril shows her softer side here, and her soft side is quite excellent. I have a bad habit of putting a chick song on the count down every year, so I felt no need to break the trend this year.

11) AFI - Silver and Cold
"Your sins into me, oh my beautiful one..."
Raise your hands if you knew that AFI has been around before "Girls Not Grey"...
LIARS! Yeah, I see some of you trendy pop posers sulking away in shame...
Alright, I'm kidding about that stuff, for those of you who didn't know, AFI was pretty big before they ever hit the radio, and it's just unfortunate about the naivety people have about old bands getting radio play after their 8th album, then people thinking they're a new band or something. Sure AFI could have gone big earlier, but sometimes, being big is quite overrated. So AFI is now in everyone's lives, and they're there to stay. The hardcore "true" fans are just gonna have to deal with it, and the naive people out there need to realize that just cuz a band is being played on the radio for the first time doesn't mean it's their first, or even BEST stuff out there.

10) Audioslave - Like a Stone
"I'll wait for you there, alone..."
Yeah, a 2 year old could be the drummer of this band, but only a genius can combine an elemetary beat with awesome lyrics and song power. Chris Parnell, whether he's on Soundgarden, Audioslave, Soundslave, or Audiogarden, or whatever, will always remain a genius at work.

9)Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz - Get Low
"To the window!!!!! To the Wall!!!!!...
Easily the party anthem of the year, no song can clear a keg line full of chicks out quicker than this song. And thank god cuz those keg lines were fucking long as hell. Musically, it's not very creative, but this "krunk", screaming, throaty sound, is quite catchy, but may not be around after this song, cuz well... you can only take it so far. But who cares how long it's gonna stay. Pump your base up, play this song, and start screaming your asses off folks...

8) Something Corporate - Cavanaugh Park (4:18 version)
"And there was never any place for someone like me to be totally happy..."
Hardcore piano rock at it's finest, I can't for the life of me figure out how the hell the band can release "If You See Jordan" over this song. And for you people who have no idea who this band is, go get a clue and go get their albums. They should be so much bigger than they actually are, espcially with this song under their belt. Nothing spells emo more than piano, whiny lyrics, and feeling sorry for yourself. This song has got it all, ladies and gentlemen. Thanks to Andrew Jacobs for introducing me to this song. It's quite the catch. And also, there's another version out there if you don't like the rock part of the song. It's pretty much a pure piano song if you're into that sort of thing.

7) The All-American Rejects - Swing Swing
"Swing swing swing from the table side, my heart is crashed by a former love..."
There may not have been a more fun pop-punk song in 2003. There also may not be a more catchy pop-punk song out there, period.

6) The Used - Taste of Ink
"And here I am, alive at last, and I'll savor every moment of this..."
Easily my favorite song from my freshman year at Eastern. It's just one of those songs that I need to scream in my car when the mood is right. While most like the sappy lyrics of the other "The Used" songs, I prefer the depth, power, and substance of this one best.

5) The Starting Line - Best of Me
"The worst is over. You could have the best of me."
Another one of those songs that you need to listen to in order to remember the good times in your life. The Starting Line is beginning to establish itself as one of the best bands out there in my mind. They're just a fun, talented, group of guys it seems.

4) Further Seems Forever - On Legendary
"Summer's gone, and winter is never too far now..."
Further Seems Forever has easily been the hottest band during the last 2 years of me keeping track of music. They've found a way to at least share a place with Dashboard on top of "The Essential Pedestal". Even more shocking is the fact this band is without the legendary Chris Carrabba, and they just might be better without him.
"BLASPHEMY!!!!!".....
You owe it to yourself to try this song and their album "How to Start a Fire", because this band could get hot on the radio before you know it and the song writing and emo part of them absolute kicks ass. And one more thing, if I were to pick an album of the year, "How to Start a Fire" would be it. Have I convinced you to try them out yet?

3) The Ataris - The Boys of Summer
"I can tell you my love for you will be strong, after the boys of summer are gone..."
The anthem of the summer with my little crew and I, you probably thought this might be my top song of the year. But alas, "The Boys of Summer" is old news and the next big thing with my guys and I is waiting to be had by us. So lets sing our praises to a great summer of 2003, and look forward to what hopefully will be an even better time in 2004 with new faces, and new places. This one goes out to, Bob Roubik, Justin Young, Andrew Jacobs, Mujahid Ghori, Ken Beaver, my beat up Explorer, and the summer of 2003.

2) Finch - What it is to Burn
"She's the only one who knows what it is to burn..."
I dedicate this one to all the angry ex-girlfriends out there. This is definitely your song. No song probably has more powerful guitar and screaming, bitchy lyrics than this one in any year or genre. Definitely a song you can scream by yourself, for yourself, and feel better and relieved about your life.

1) Straylight Run - Existentialism on Prom Night
"Sing like you think no one's listening..."
First of all, thanks to Lorrie Ward, because without her, I would have never found out that Taking Back Sunday members had left and formed this awesome new
