Motocross is a extreme sport, it is an off road sport with its own specific competition bikes, proctection gear and clothing. The races are on specialy made tracks which are in fields, land fill sites or disused qaurries.
The Bike which is used in motocross has full suspension at the front there is forks and at the back a single coiled shock, but many vary as older bikes have two. the bikes are chain drived and have five or six gears depending on the bike manufacturer. they have specialy made tyres which hace sqaure nobles, which are roughly an inch high and range from a centimeter sqaured to two centimeter sqaured. all race bikes are run on unleaded petrol but some require oil mixtures within the fuel. there are two types of motocross one is a four stroke as the other is a two stroke the difference is not only in the sound but in the performance. the four stroke has a continuous flow of power and is heavier than the two stroke. the two stroke has a power threshold where you have to keep the bike in the threshold by keeping it high reved, it also has a oil mixture needed in with the fuel as it does not have an oil sump like the four stroke.

There are other engines sizes but not all manufacturers make these other larger engine sizes.
Each of these types of bikes have there own race depending on there bhp (brake horse power). there is also skill level races such as in the amca novices would go into the junior class, moderate to good riders would go into the senior class, good and experienced riders would go into the expert class and youth riders would partake in the inter junior class.
There are correct clothing in motocross as it is potentialy life threatening so there are protective clothing, there is; helmets, goggles, body armor, elbow pads, gloves, kidney belts, knee pads, padded trousers, boots and a long sleaved shirt. All of this is nessacery for protecting you against track debry and crashes to protect youself as much as possible. |
