WHO ARE WE?
Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity was founded on December 16, 1925 at Lafayette College, Easton, PA. What became one man's dream to uphold the "standard of manhood" became a national enhancement of honorable, helpful and friendly "good citizens." Our founding members consisted of 14 remarkable men who were advised by 6 other gentlemen. |

The Alpha Beta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega was chartered on March 8, 1986 by 19 students, both male and female on the University of New Orleans campus. However somewhere down the road the Alpha Beta Kappa chapter lost its charter. In the fall of 2001 more energetic students decided that they would not let ABK be dismantled. After hard work and dedication 23 young men and women along with 6 advisors were able to get us re-chartered. That beautiful day was June 7, 2003. |

Although we were founded by all men, in the 1960s and early 1970s changes were being made on college campuses. Chapters membership were declining and it was thought that if women were admitted to the organization the membership would increase tremendously. In 1970 the Zeta chapter at Stanford University changed its bylaws to admit women into their chapter. After much debate in 1972 the United State Congress passed Title IX Federal Higher Education Act, which is in favor for admitting both male and female into organizations. Finally in 1976 women were granted the right to become full brothers in Alpha Phi Omega. Through all of this the men and women of this organization has learned to work together as one and be accepting of one another as BROTHERS. |
