What are the statistics of abused children? |
When talking about child abuse, the statistics are astonishing. Estimates say that hundreds of thousands of children are being abused each year. More than twelve out of every 1,000 children are abused and neglected each year in the United States. Research indicates that children three years old and younger are the most frequent victims of child abuse and neglect fatalities.Murders of children five years old and younger are most often committed by family members through beatings or suffocation. Children with disabilities are, on average, more than three times more likely to be maltreated than other children. Many children are physically abused by their parents, though some are also abused by family relatives. Thousands of children die yearly. For those that survive, the trauma they experience hurts more than the bruises they recieved when getting beaten. Early recognition and treatment are important to minimize the long term effect of physical abuse. If a child says that they have been abused or talks about their parents beating them up, serious measures need to be in order.
Physical abuse is not the only kind of child abuse. Many children are also victims of neglect, or sexual abuse, or emotional abuse. In all kinds of child abuse, the child and the family can benefit from evaluation and treatment from a qualified mental health professional.> |

Do children actually know they are being abused? |
A child of an age of five or older, becomes torn between affection or loyalty for the person. If the child cares for the parent, he/she does not kwno where to turn. The child, although at a young age, can sense that something is wrong. If a child tries to beak away from the situation, then they might be abused even more or might be threatened with love. When sexual abuse occurs within the family, the child may fear the anger, jealousy or shame of other family members, or be afraid the family will break up if the secret is told.
A child who goes through abuse, may grow up to have low anxiety or low self-esteem. They might need to go to therapy or a support group. Many children become so depressed that they even become suicidal.<> |

It is never to early to learn self defense |
Child abuse is a serious issue these days. Many parents or relatives are very abusive, causing many children to die or, in their adolescence years, want to commit suicide. If a parent is not ready for a child, then they shold be more protective. Abusers need to realize that they need serious help and if they can not control their actions, then they shold do what is best for the child. Give them up for adoption or give them to a close family member, until they get help. When abusing a child, it is like you are actually killing them. Putting bruises and scars on their bodies or pulling their hair so hard as to it may even fall out, can really hanut them for life. Parents need to learn how to take their anger out on themsevles or on something. Definitly not on somebody-especially their child. They have created that child, hurting them causes so much sufferage for both the parent and the child. |

I looked up this one web site that had all different types of statistics on child abuse. They were very reliable becuase they gave actual specific dates on when some incidents occured. There were so many statistics that really amazed me. I can not believe I went through so much of my life not knowing how big of an issue child absue was. How can you beat up a child that is not even able to talk? They are so innocent, some people need major help. I am glad that there are services out there to help these parents, and everyone else, becuae this issue really needs to start being fixed. This webiste specifically stated that children with dissabilities are more prone to being abused. If an abuser knows how much pain this child is already going through, how could they cause so much more pain? Although this is such a sad issue to look up, I am glad I took the time to read it over, I wish there was a way I could help these children from being abused. |

Child abuse and trichotillomania is an article that focuses on children being abused. Most children are abused by their parents or some close family relative, but sometimes the abuser is who you least expect. In this article, the abuser is a school teacher who pulls many children's hair. She uses that as a punishment if they goof of or do not do their work. This article can be helpful to many people. Mostly to parents/teachers who abuse their children/students. Maybe by reading this article, they will learn a lesson and begin to realize how wrong it is to abuse a child. My personal opinion on the issue of child abuse, is that it is completly wrong and horrible to even visualize. I never really thought that it was such an issue until I did a little research on this topic. I saw some picutres of little babies who have been abused, and it is very sad. I am not sure why anyone would torture a child, especially if they were your own, it just puzzles me completely.Saraswat, A. "Child abuse and trichotillomania." This duck is like the abuser...CRAZY! |
When thinking about statistics on child abuse, it is helpful to know that the very idea of "child abuse" is controversial.
Only recently, and only in particular countries and cultures, has the abuse of children come to be seen as a major social problem and a main cause of many people's suffering and personal problems.
Of course children have been abused throughout human history. But for people to think about child abuse as we do now, to create legal definitions and government agencies that can remove children from their homes, and to conduct thousands of research studies on the effects of abuse - these are historically and culturally embedded developments.
Some believe that, for the first time in history, we are beginning to face the true prevalence and significance of child abuse. Others worry that many people have become obsessed with child abuse and deny any personal responsibility for their problems while "blaming" them on abuse and bad parenting.
Clearly, then, some very large contexts and controversies shape debates about particular issues concerning child abuse. |

Seeking a cure for child abuse - preventive measures to child abuse, was a big article in the USA today newpaper about five years ago. It talks about a lot of statistics throughout the United States about how many innoocent children are being abused these days. The issue talks about trying to help the world so that not as many children are being abused. This article talks specifically about an 18 year old girl who does not remember ever getting hugs or kisses from her mother, but remembers being whipped and beaten up. She and her neighbor tried to get help from many people, but no one would listen. Finally once the girl recieved help, her mother was put in prison and the girl was put up for adoption. It is really sad that it took as long as it did for this girl to recieve help. Hopefully though, her mom suffers really badly and the girl finds a nice family to be adopted into. A lot of questions were brough up in this article of how other were supposed to help this girl. What were her neighbors supposed to do so that the beatings would stop? I hope that now they have answered those questions and figured out what others can do to help. I am glad I found this article within my research. It taught me a lot more about the statistics and how and what you are supposed to do if anyone is ever in danger. Unfortunatly, this crime of abuse happens way too often. I am not sure what other ways to go about preventing this issue, but I hope someone comes up with a solution fast. (USA today) |

Where can an abuser go for help? |
It takes a long time for the child to cope with the situation of being abused. Usually in their adolescence years, they will remember what it felt like, which is the cause of many abused children becoming abused parents. When an adult was beaten as a child, it is hard for them to have close relationsips with their children. They are also at higher risk for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, medical illness, and problems at school or work. Without proper treatment, physically abused children can be damaged for life. The family as a whole, need to work together if they want to recieve help and become closer with one another. They should go to family support groups or anger management. Childhelp USA® is one of the largest and oldest national non-profits dedicated to the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Since its founding in 1959 by Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson, the organization has directly provided help and hope to millions of children and adults whose lives have been traumatized by child abuse. |
