The Story Begins... At the start of this academic year in Aberystwyth University, two legends of the game of rugby in the town, Mr. Richard 'Dicky' Lewis and Mr. Stephen 'Steve-O' Brown, sat while having a quiet pint or twelve, discussing the decline in the drinking culture that they had experienced over their long years at this academic institution. This conversation lead to the formation of a team, a fellowship, a band of brothers if you will who became known... As the Aber 4ths. Read on to find out more about this magical tale! The Creation of The TRL For a while, the Aber 4ths remained true to their beginnings, 'training' consisted of getting absolutely hammered and athletic pursuits were usually undertaken whilst smelling distinctly like a small brewery. However, the 4ths then heard about the creation of the TRL (Touch Rugby League). This softer, more gentle form of they game they loved appealed to the 4ths, mostly because they could play whilst hungover (or still under the influence) with a reduced risk of injury or fatality when compared to the 15-a-side, full contact version. The two founders of the 4ths then set about creating a team to compete in this league, this challenge would lead them to deep and dark recesses of the Aber night.. And even to the realms of the roundball!!! The Quest For A Team Continues... The 4ths recruited from far and wide, from the dark corners of The Castle Hotel to the bright lights of the Union. It seemed that no-one was safe (especially as people were usually asked to play while the club captain, Mr. Brown, was in paticularly hard training) However, a team was eventually constructed...
